Food Service Worker I & II

Location: Happy Valley-Goose Bay
Reporting to the Regional Director and/or the Manager of Environmental/Laundry Services, the primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of housekeeping tasks to facilitate a safe, clean and sterile environment at the Labrador-Grenfell Health Facilities. The Domestic Worker carries out duties which ensure that the environment is free from dust, soil, smears, dried splashes, litter, body wastes and other contaminates.
Reporting to the Food Operations Manager or designate, the primary purpose of this position is to organize and serve foods and perform tasks related to food service.
Qualifications (May include some of the following):
" Graduation from High School or equivalent;
" Knowledge of the chemicals, cleaning practices, equipment and supplies used in the process is an asset;
" Willingness to enroll in and complete the basic course in Environmental Services and Infection Control;
" Ability to work effectively with co-workers and other departments;
" Initiative to meet the written Goals & Objectives of the department using methods and products approved by the department under minimal supervision;
" Be in a state of health which allows effective performance of all duties within the job description;
" Ability to learn and apply food values and therapeutic diets;
" Ability to take directions and learn techniques involved in the safe use and care of food service equipment and kitchen utensils;
" Ability to learn and apply safe food handling procedures/practices;
" Ability to organize daily tasks while managing competing demands on time;
" Ability to maneuver heavy carts throughout the hospital/home;
" Experience in institutional receiving, preparation and service of food, and in safe and sanitary food handling, and janitorial work;
" Able to perform heavy manual tasks and store keeping activities;
" Valid Driver's License;
" The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory certificate of conduct.
Duties (include but not limited to) (Utility/Domestic):
" Participate in applicable in-service and continuing education programs as offered and/or required;
" Dry and wet mop floors; vacuum carpets; clean walls, furniture, fixed and selected non-fixed equipment as per daily, weekly and monthly schedules and as otherwise assigned;
" Collect garbage as scheduled and as required;
" Cleaning/disinfecting of resident's rooms and other areas of LTC Facility;
" Cleaning/disinfecting of Dirty Utility Room walls and floors;
" Sorting of clean and dirty linens;
" Ordering Housekeeping supplies;
" Other related duties as required.
Duties (include but not limited to) (Food Service Worker I):
" Prepares food such as eggs, cereals, toast, sandwiches, salads and hot beverages;
" Cleans and prepares fruits/vegetables and portions desserts;
" Reviews patient diet list and prepares individual meal trays & snacks in keeping with the therapeutic diets ordered;
" Prepares and delivers special caterings within the facilities;
" Tallies patient meal count and diet orders and informs cooks of requirements;
" Updates and reviews patient "food preference cards";
" Delivers and picks up patient meal trays;
" Cleans tray preparation area, strips trays and cleans utensils/cutlery/dishes and related equipment;
" Operates cash register, prepares daily cash reports;
" Performs related work as required.
Duties (include but not limited to) (Food Service Worker II):
" Washing pots and pans and cleaning floors and cleaning walls;
" Cleaning major pieces of equipment, including refrigerators, grease screens and exhaust hoods;
" Unloading supplies from trucks and containers and storing them in designated storage areas;
" Carrying and dispensing food supplies from freezers and storeroom to kitchen and stocking food supplies in freezers and storerooms;
" Keeping accurate inventory records of day stores and freezers and refrigerators;
" Assist Cooks with food preparation and service;
" Short order cooking and basic cooking tasks;
" Keeping storage areas well organized;
" Other duties as required.
" CG-19 level at $18.52 - $19.99 per hour, in addition to the applicable Labrador Allowance.
" CG-20 level at $18.88 - $20.48 per hour, in addition to the applicable Labrador Allowance.
" CG-21 level at $19.22 - $20.94 per hour, in addition to the applicable Labrador Allowance.
