Currently, Bissell Centre is looking for the right individual to fill the contract position of Financial Empowerment Clinic Coordinator. This is a federally funded contract designed to increase awareness and take-up of the Canada Learning Bond, with particular emphasis on vulnerable populations. The key function of this position is project coordination and developing collaborative partnerships with other organizations in order to implement Super Clinics in Edmonton and the surrounding area. This project is a collaborative initiative between E4C and the Institute for the Advancement of Aboriginal Women (IAAW).

Specific responsibilities of the position include:

  • Work collaboratively to coordinate 38 Super Clinic events in Edmonton with other agencies and internal Bissell Centre staff between September 2019 and March 2021.
  • Establish a multi-sector Edmonton Super Clinic Committee to support project implementation and sustainability.
  • Develop a scalable, easy to implement Super Clinic model package that can be used long term city-wide.
  • Create & distribute culturally appropriate resources & promotional materials that increase understanding of RESP investment language for marginalized individuals and newcomers to Canada in order to ensure individuals have the confidence to use and maintain their RESP accounts.
  • Assist in the training of over 120 front line staff across e4c, Bissell Centre & IAAW on Financial Empowerment (Financial Literacy and Financial Coaching).
  • Offer training sessions to staff city wide including City of Edmonton and other social service agency staff.
  • Assist individuals in filing over 10,000 income taxes and support access to over 120 pieces of ID (required to facilitate the opening of an RESP).
  • Collect and enter data required and participate in the evaluation of the project including analysis and validation of the scalability of the project and meet targets/Key Performance Indicators.
  • Coordinate reporting for the project between Bissell, E4C and IAAW.

The ideal candidate would possess the following qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in Social Work, Education, Project Management, Recreation, Psychology, or other relevant education and/or experience.
  • Minimum 1 year relevant employment experience
  • Knowledge of Indigenous cultural resources, ceremonies and protocols an asset
  • Familiarity with issues of poverty, homelessness, and Edmonton’s urban core
  • Experience in developing community partnerships and event coordination desired
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Result-oriented, good time management, strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Criminal Record and Child Intervention checks are required
  • Valid Driver’s License is required and access to a vehicle
  • Candidates holding a Social Work Degree or Diploma have to be registered and in good standing with the ACSW

This is a full-time position, working 40 hours per week with a salary range of $21.00 to $23.00 per hour. Some evening, weekend, overnight and statutory holiday work will be required.
