PURPOSE OF JOB
The Pricing Manager will lead and facilitate the execution of Staples Canada’s pricing strategy. They will work with Category Managers to develop and implement product price strategies that maximize sales and profit by optimizing retail pricing and promotions. They will develop best practices, processes and tools for pricing optimization, competitive pricing, lifecycle management, and markdown optimization. They will develop, implement and govern pricing policies and procedures.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the development of category pricing strategies with the category merchant teams including developing pricing rules and guidelines, price matrices and ladders, and competitive price positioning.
Monitor market conditions and pricing/promotional trends
Govern pricing policy and ensure adherence to pricing rules and guidelines
Analytics and Reporting:
Review margin and pricing analysis to support decision making and initiatives
Lead the development of metrics, data, and reporting for pricing, markdowns and promotions to measure impacts and performance
Develop standardized reporting and analysis for use by the business in managing pricing and profitability
Develop Tools and Processes:
Develop/implement tools and process to improve price analytics, management and execution
Implement price, promotion and markdown optimization
Implement competitive pricing tools via web scraping
Create/implement tools for modelling the impacts of price changes, and conducting “what if” analytics
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS
Knowledge / Skill Requirements:
Strong analytical abilities and ability to work with large amounts of data
Ability to translate data into business insights
Knowledge of retail pricing fundamentals
Knowledge of category management fundamentals
3-5 years of experience in retail buying, category management and/or merchandising analytics
Successful completion of post-secondary education or equivalent blend of education and work experience.
MBA and/or accounting designation (CPA, CMA, CGA) considered an asset
