Reporting to the Senior Administrator, responsible for directing and managing housekeeping, laundry and maintenance services/functions within the Center to ensure the provision of a safe, clean, comfortable environment for our residents, staff and other who visit. Supervising: Housekeeping Aides and Maintenance Workers.
Contribute to the process of care planning and implementation of the care plan in respect to housekeeping needs, in particular former lifestyle needs of residents.
Attend departmental and in-service education meetings, multidisciplinary meetings.
Prepare the annual department budget, including human, fiscal and material resources.
Assess existing and new systems, programs, and procedures.
Organize, evaluate and implement a monitoring program for the functions being delivered by Support Service in the Home’s Quality Improvement /Risk Management activities.
Maintain inventory systems and ensure an adequate supply of housekeeping supplies at all times.
Recruit, select, hire, orientate, train and evaluate an adequate number of trained staff who exhibits a caring attitude and sensitivity to the needs of the elderly.
Plan and conduct staff development programs for the support services personnel, including orientation, in-service and continuing education. Special attention is given to training in disinfection procedures and infection control principles and practices.
Implement an Occupational Health and Safety program for support services.
Ensure all maintenance records, and schedules for ongoing, preventative and emergency work are kept up to date.
Monitor maintenance contracts; and provide guidelines and criteria for improved services.
Provide guidelines for job and task performance requirements.
Ensure laundry services will be organized to meet the linen and personal clothing needs of residents.
Ensure the Home’s furnishings, equipment and maintenance system, air conditioning, heating and ventilation, electrical and mechanical will be maintained.
Ensure to organize /assist with the monthly fire drill exercises; and ensure compliance of the fire safety plan in case of the emergency.
Ensure general cleaning offices and all public area washrooms.
Ensure daily lobby floor tile scrubbing and dusting furniture.
Ensure to provide assistance for set-up and clean-up in special events or functions.
Ensure garbage handling according to schedule.
Ensure snow shuffling of the gardens during winter times when necessary.
To undertake any other duties as assigned by the Senior Administrator.
High School equivalent or above and at least 3 years supervision experience preferable in senior service.
Experience in health care industry an advantage;
Strong supervisory, interpersonal, communication skills;
Ability to handle multiple tasks;
Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations, SDS;
Experience in an unionize environment an advantage.
