What is an Intervenor?
Intervenors are specially trained professionals who act as the “eyes” and “ears” of the individual who is deafblind through the sense of touch. An Intervenor facilitates access to environmental information that is usually gained through vision and hearing for clients living with deafblindness. The Intervenor will assist clients to gather information, learn concepts and skills, develop communication and language, and establish relationships that lead to greater independence and community involvement. Given the unique needs of individuals with deafblindness, DeafBlind Ontario Services offers training for new employees, as well as ongoing and continuous training.
