INVENTORY & PURCHASING Specialist

The Inventory & Purchasing Specialist will focus on overall inventory planning and storeroom management to achieve greater supply chain efficiencies. As required, this role interacts and collaborates with various departments to achieve the goal of effective inventory management objectives and improved manufacturing productivity. This position is also responsible for all inventory purchasing related activities and communication with specific vendors/suppliers.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Manage and coordinate the process of receiving, storing and distributing materials
  • Process and coordinate transactions into ERP system to maintain the accuracy of inventory, purchase orders, and other records. Work with Storeroom team to maintain accuracy and compliance with control and audit system
  • Conduct accurate cycle counts as per schedule and compare results to system data; adjust based on established policies; investigate sources of negative inventory and suggest necessary actions
  • Analyze and make recommendations to management regarding stock levels, item status and product deposition. Plan and organize inventories
  • Coordinate with vendors and in-house departments to resolve any inventory discrepancies
  • Provide information to various departments about product usage, availability and application when necessary
  • Source, negotiate and purchase items for various projects and/or ongoing operations
  • Create and maintain efficient, documented processes within the department.
  • Ensure accurate reporting metrics for the department
  • Take a lead role in ensuring that department objectives and initiatives are completed
  • Management of team members, including daily work scheduling; training; performance reviews; communication of work instructions and standard practices
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly working environment

Key skills and Characteristics:

  • Excellent attention to detail, strong analytical, planning and problem-solving skills
  • High level of time management and organizational skills; results oriented and organized with the ability to plan and deliver against deadlines, multi-task as necessary
  • Good understanding of supply chain processes and their interdependencies
  • Proficient with Inventory/Warehouse Management Systems and ERP; proficient with Excel, MS office
  • AS400 experience an asset
  • Adaptable, and can adjust to changing needs of the business and operational requirements
  • High level of interpersonal skills, the ability to work collaboratively, build teams and work within/lead cross functional teams
  • Self-starter who takes initiative
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Knowledge of Inventory Management and Supply Chain processes
  • Strong negotiating skills
  • Proven ability to analyze processes and develop efficiencies
  • Capable of analyzing data, developing reporting, providing trending analysis and conclusions
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and part of a team
  • Professional attitude and demeanor

Education/Experience Desired:

  • Completed post-secondary education in Business, Supply Chain, Operations/Manufacturing or related discipline preferred
  • 2-3 years inventory management and/or purchasing experience required
  • Previous leadership experience is preferred
