Position Summary

Position Summary:
The Assistant Manager, Logistics Cost will be responsible for the management of overall Logistics Cost for Samsung Canada. The role demands a full understanding of all Logistics Costs and processes across different divisions, products and customer fulfillment channels. This position will monitor and control the cost processes of daily spend, weekly reporting and monthly results versus management plans.
Through this responsibility of cost management, the position will be expected to provide proactive, expert-level solutions / suggestions for mitigating extraneous cost, avoiding exception-based spending, in addition to, implementing solutions for future-proof cost reduction and savings initiatives for Samsung of Canada’s entire Logistics spend.
The role is responsible for HS Code classification in Canada, Import Duties and related recoup / amendment process, and New Product set-up responsibilities for proper classification and guidance of Canadian importation across multiple points of origin.
The position will liaise directly with our Finance, Sales, Supply Chain Management, Service Department, and 3rd Party Logistics partners, as well as with our Carriers, Distributors, Customs Clearance providers, and CBSA / Border Agencies as required.

These duties will be fulfilled by managing a team of Logistics subject matter experts.

Role and Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Detailed-level Logistics cost tracking, Accrual / CMF reporting and Analysis; including projections and Forecasting of expected spend, risk, and over & above costs; Managing a complex accrual process regarding all inbound, outbound, direct ship, costing activity from multiple sources. Processing of invoices as required
Monitoring and analyzing all data to ensure proper cost allocation cross divisionally
Liase with finance to enhance financial reporting
Creating new policy and procedure as related to cost, in partnership with Sales Divisions, SDS, and factories
Monitor spend at the category and divisional level, and report all variances to senior levels of each division
Provide recommendations to senior leadership on cost avoidance, best practices on spend reduction strategies, and proactively suggest areas of required improvement through continuous analysis of Risk and Control reports / Logistics Cost center tracking reports; As well, Provide leadership and training to all internal and external customers as required
Subject matter expert on HS classifications, reclamation process, and duties, and ensuring CBSA compliant
Responsible for negotiating contracts with external 3rd parties; Managing Logistics Tariff system and negotiation process
Commercial invoice / Trade Agreement liaison with Samsung’s Logistic partner company
Accessorial Charges – Verification, Validation, and gaining alignment of final settlements with SDS, factories, and carriers
Carrier Contract maintenance, review, and negotiation support as required
Single point of Contact for Logistics and Customs and Duty Audits
Ad-hoc reporting, projects and various duties as required
Responsible for mentoring and coaching direct reports

Skills and Qualifications

Education/ Knowledge/ Experience/ Competencies

Post-secondary education from a recognized college or university required

CCS (Certified Customs Specialist) required

Logistics designations / Professional Accreditation (CCLP, P.Log., etc.) is an asset

International Incoterms / Trade Agreements expertise (NAFTA, etc.)

Professional working knowledge of Global Freight Forwarding and Inbound Logistics
Well-versed in transportation Law, Incoterms, Importation SOP, Outbound carrier networks and fulfillment cycles in the Canadian market
Professional working knowledge of financial planning and analysis and accrual processes is required
SAP/ERP competency required
Bilingual (French/English) would be considered an asset
Excellent written and oral communication skills
MS Office including intermediate to advanced Excel, is required
Data retrieval and manipulation experience with demonstrable, verifiable output and report creation
Demonstrable understanding of cost-avoidance measures and leadership / implementation of same, with proven results
Consumer market familiarity in Canada

Minimum 5-7 years of related experience in logistics, Canadian Customs and Importation; Logistics Cost management inclusive of invoice verification process, Tariff master creation and maintenance
Experience in technology and/or fast moving consumer goods, with complex sku mix, is required.
