The Nights Program is currently looking for Relief Child and Youth Care Counsellors. Male candidates are preferred. This awake overnight position will be responsible for the Night Counsellor duties in the program.

The Night Counsellor's primary responsibilities are to attend to the health and welfare of the children and the security of the program and campus. Employees in this classification function as team members of the program and perform essential child care work as applies to the care, nurturance, supervision and discipline of the children.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure the physical security of the program
Conduct program rounds with the evening and morning staff to assure good program order, security, and account for all the children
Conduct program rounds routinely throughout the night at designated intervals and as necessary in situations when increased surveillance of the cottage and children is warranted, i.e., runaway concerns, suicidal clients, self-abusive persons served, medical concerns
Keep apprised of all relevant documentation pertaining to program and children such as communications book, memos, program manuals, service plans, night directives manual, etc.
Record observations and significant information in appropriate reporting formats, i.e., runaway reports, confinement sheets, contact books, etc.
Attend to the physical needs and medical requirements of the children
Ensure effective follow-through of specific interventions and strategies for each child as per treatment plan and directives
Relay information about night events, child count, etc., to the Night Coordinator and report all significant or out-or ordinary situations to the Coordinator, senior staff or other appropriate personnel as required
Maintain an up-to-date bed plan in the night directives book
Within reason, attend to housekeeping tasks
Attend to clerical tasks as required

Skills and Qualifications:
Degree or Diploma in Human Services or Social Sciences and/or related academic or work experience is necessary
Clear Police Check including Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Intervention Record Check
Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
High level of personal maturity and responsibility
Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with co-workers
Completion of ASIST, First Aid, Certified with CYCAA and/or Therapeutic Crisis Intervention would be considered an asset
Preference will be given to those that have completed coursework and/or certification in Brain Development or Trauma Informed Care. Some suggested courses include:
