Meet Brayden

Brayden is a Manager of Logistics Operations in our Logistics Department. He is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of outbound logistics operations with a focus on the efficient, cost effective operations, and timely delivery of merchandise to stores. This position also contributes to strategic and tactical plans that further optimize merchandise flow through the supply chain to achieve WMI business goals.

Now, if you were to come on board as one of our Manager of Logistics Operations, we’d ask you to do the following:

This position is the primary point of contact for store logistics and acts as a liaison between Service Providers (Carriers, 3PL’s), TJX, and WMI Key Partners (Distribution Services, Store Operations, Loss Prevention, Planning/Allocation, Finance, and Merchants).
Supports WMI Logistics strategies and delivers merchandise and fixtures to stores, in a cost effective and efficient manner while meeting or exceeding carrier service standards.
Selection and management of qualified transportation service providers, regular analysis of the delivery methodology to each store, and management of the outbound store delivery network performance, both service level compliance and budget expense attainment.
Use RFP’s and other procurement tools at appropriate intervals to ensure optimal rates and service are in place. Negotiate with carriers as needed for transportation services requiring spot pricing or other transportation services not covered in the RFP.
Lead or support in multi-banner or cross-functional transportation negotiations.
Create, implement, and maintain effective Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
Support operational excellence with Performance Metrics – Monitor, design and execute solutions for service level agreement compliance by service providers.
Expense Metrics – Monitor, design and execute solutions to correct variances to budget.
Enhance WMI Service Provider relations, seek win-win solutions.
Lead continuous performance improvement, process enhancement and effective issues resolution through collaborative partnership with service providers.
Support additions, enhancements, and revisions to supply chain visibility and system capabilities.
Develop, create, document, and implement processes and procedures that support Canadian store distribution, logistics, and transportation solutions.
Determine optimal WMI delivery program for each store (drop trailer, LTL, peddle-run, floor load, etc.) Partner with Store Operations and Distribution Services in identifying opportunities for change and coordinate implementation at the store level.
Lead negotiation, analysis, and implementation of protective services solution.
Provide North American transportation expertise to WMI initiatives.
Provide education and coaching to cross functional stakeholders on transportation logistics requirements and processes.
Support new store openings with negotiated service provider solutions.
Partner with Logistics Finance on cost savings initiatives, support freight audit and claims activities, participate in negotiated settlements when required.
Partner with the distribution centers to manage and optimize key store delivery cost drivers: units/carton, cartons/pallet, big box utilization, etc.
Partner with Inbound Logistics Team to leverage synergies of carriers offering multiple service offering (i.e. inbound and outbound, systems capabilities, etc.).
Support Sarbanes-Oxley compliance with contract management procedure adherence.
Manage projects initiatives with structured methodology, creating and maintaining project development plans, determining project specifications/selection criteria, applying principles of project control, and using project reporting systems.

Bachelor’s degree in related discipline, preferably with Business, Transportation, Logistics or Supply Chain Management focus.
Designation/Certificate preferred in Canadian Institute of Traffic and Transportation (CITT) or The Logistics Institute (P.Log.).
Minimum seven (7) years related work experience, preferable in Canadian transportation management or retail logistics environment.
Canadian transportation knowledge, including; understanding transportation operations, costing, and service provider geographical coverage and capabilities in the various transportation modes, industry best practices, transportation industry regulations and the basics of transportation.
Demonstrated strong management skills including organizational skills; interviewing skills; negotiating skills, interpersonal skills including conflict management; and information gathering including active listening skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to read, write, communicate and interpret information accurately; bilingualism an asset; able to developing and building relationships with internal and external partners / team members; customer service skills including efficiently and effectively responding to inquires or resolving any conflicts or problems that might arise.
Solid project management skills including structured project methodology (i.e. determining needs, researching existing programs, etc.); preparing and maintaining detailed development plans for projects; determining project specifications; understanding and applying principles of project control; and knowledge of and ability to use project reporting systems.
Problem solving skills including analysis of information and assisting staff in identifying solutions.
Organizational skills development skills including change management skills; development of corporate training programs for management and staff (policies and procedures, etc.); training management staff (Associate performance management, management skills, etc.); development of succession plans.
Thoughtful leadership skills with the ability to act as a collaborative partner with senior management and positively influence management and staff to act in the best interest of the Company.
Demonstrated ability in the budgeting process for construction projects and experience with developing budgets, management of budgets and the ability to understand the financial impacts of the budgeting process.
People management skills including coaching, providing advice and guidance to associates in the resolution of problems; evaluating performance and providing feedback to team members.
General computer skills including Word, Excel, Microsoft Office, Power Point.
