Status: Temporary Part Time (0.48 FTE)
Start Date: As soon as possible until approximately June 25, 2020
Salary: $35.56 - $44.36 per hour
Hours: 09:00-17:00/13:00-17:00/10:00-18:00 with Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday and statutory holidays off

JOB SUMMARY:
Practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice and code of ethics as outlined by the Canadian Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (CASLPA) as well as within a client and family centred care model and the vision and values of the organization. Works as part of an interdisciplinary community mental health team and without general supervision to assess and treat preschool children who have communication disorders. Completes client reports, educates clients/family, provides counselling and consultation, works collaboratively with parents and early Childhood Education staff and teachers, and presents lectures and develops and delivers educational sessions as needed. Participates in interdisciplinary team rounds, risk management and research, and provides leadership to new team members and Speech-Language Pathology students.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience

Current full registration with the College of Speech and Hearing Professionals of British Columbia.
Two (2) years’ recent related professional experience dealing with preschool children, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Valid BC Driver’s License. Local area travel may require the use of a personal vehicle.
Knowledge & Abilities

Knowledge of the principles of recovery in mental illness.
Broad knowledge of community mental health services and resources.
Broad knowledge of early childhood development, interventions and services.
Broad knowledge of evidence based practice and research process and methodology.
Broad knowledge of other health disciplines and their role in healthcare.
Basic knowledge of adult, children and infant mental health issues and treatment.
Basic knowledge of adult education principles, methods and tools.
Demonstrated ability to understand and influence group and inter-group processes, decision-making and problem solving.
Demonstrated ability to establish rapport with preschool children and their families in order to explore issues that are beyond the initial presented concerns.
Demonstrated ability to communicate (orally and in writing) and deal effectively with children & youth, their families, educational personnel, coworkers, physicians, other health care staff, and staff of external agencies.
Demonstrated ability to adjust to unexpected events, problem-solve, set priorities and deal with conflict.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
Demonstrated ability to determine and deal effectively with urgent situations, clients/families.
Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver presentations.
Demonstrated ability to provide effective consultation.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other healthcare professionals.
Demonstrated skill in clinical techniques and the use of applicable equipment and supplies.
Demonstrated computer skills including the ability to effectively use a computerized client care information system.
Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
