Job Summary

The Senior Payroll Specialist performs accounting duties in the accumulating, recording, and processing of data for payroll such as time and/or earning adjustments (for current or prior periods), manual payments, WCB net pay calculations and EI Records of Employment according to established standards, policies, and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Process, check and approve payroll
  • Review timesheets and system time records
  • Identifies, investigates, and resolves discrepancies in timesheet and payroll records
  • Complete, verify, and process forms and documents necessary for the administration of benefits, such as pension plans, leave, and group insurance
  • Maintain staff records for vacations, holidays, absences, and time banks according to the labor standards
  • Collaborate in the preparation of tax statements and other surveys
  • Issue and oversee Records of Employment in accordance with Service Canada standards and HR indications
  • Produce various reports and compile statistical reports, statements, and summaries regarding compensation and benefits
  • Collaborate on the continuous improvement of the payroll service and contribute to the implementation of a more efficient working method


  • 7+ years of Payroll processing experience
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner certification from the Canadian Payroll Association
  • Proficiency with ADP WorkforceNow a must
  • Experience processing multi-provincial payroll a must
  • Exceptionally keen attention to detail
  • Intermediate Excel skills
  • Must have knowledge of payroll-related legislative requirements (ie. Employment Standards Act)
  • Excellent time management and skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • A strong work ethic and a positive attitude

Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications

Security Clearance: Security Clearance may be requested for this position

Working Hours: Salaried Position: Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm
