Job Type: part time 15 hours per week, with occasional additional hours

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as first point of contact for all past, present, and future individual volunteers, group volunteers, and practicum students
  • recruits new volunteers
  • Develops, reviews, and maintains volunteer records, using a web-based database; ensures confidentiality of client and volunteer information
  • Maintains, updates, and creates all volunteer program documents, including applications, paperwork, and handbook
  • Collaborates with managers and front-line staff to design new volunteer roles that are appropriate for volunteers, support the mission, and adhere to collective agreements.
  • Maintain and expand an ongoing volunteer recruitment program, including screening, interviewing and selecting new applicants
  • Designs, promotes, and facilitates group volunteer opportunities for corporate, school, faith, and other community groups
  • Coordinates the Criminal Record Review Program for volunteers; ensures all new volunteers are screened through the CRRP; ensures all long-term volunteers renew their CRRP clearance every five years
  • Provides a general screening and orientation for all new individual volunteers;
  • Implements The Salvation Army’s required volunteer training modules; promotes other training opportunities for volunteers when available; collaborates with managers and front-line staff to provide role-specific orientation and training as needed
  • Schedules all group and individual volunteers for the community programs and activities
  • Work with the Community Council and other partners to identify, promote, and deliver skilled volunteer and group volunteer opportunities
  • Plans recognition activities for Volunteers ensuring volunteers are recognized throughout the year
  • Maintains accurate statistics on the volunteer program
  • Ensures program policies and procedures are accurate and up to date; monitors adherence to all policies and procedures which guide volunteer involvement
  • liaises with schools, businesses, institutions to arrange partnership agreements; collaborates with managers to set up practicum placement
  • Performs other duties as assignedRecommended EDUCATION:
  • A certificate, diploma, or degree in volunteer management, non-profit management, or a related social services field
  • * PRIOR RELATED EXPERIENCE*
  • At least two years of experience managing or supervising individual and group volunteersSPECIAL LICENSE / DIPLOMA / CERTIFICATION / OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Willingness to adhere to the Mission and Values of The Salvation Army
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • Experience working with a web-based volunteer database (e.g. BetterImpact or VolunteerHub)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including strong conflict-resolution skills
  • Proven ability to communicate and work effectively with a diverse population of staff, volunteers, and clients
  • Exceptional confidentiality and professional boundaries
  • Strong administrative, time-management, and organization skills
  • Ability to pass a criminal record check.
  • Hold or be willing to train for a basic First Aid/CPR certificate and NVCI
  • Previous experience working in a social services setting (e.g. shelters, addiction treatment, correctional programs) would be a significant asset
  • Certification (CCVA) in volunteer administration credential is not required, but would be an asset
  • A valid BC drivers' license is not required, but would be an asset
  • Some evening/weekend work required, for volunteer orientation sessions, events, etc. Job Type: part time 15 hours per week, with occasional additional hours
