Job Summary

Responsible for co-ordinating a team of territory Retail Representatives within the area to meet and/or exceed retail objectives at the point of sale. Ensuring compliance to policy and procedures. Responsible for people development, coaching and performance management. This role involves a high volume of travel within its District.

Key Accountabilities

Scope:
The District Sales Manager reports to the “Regional Sales Manager – Western Canada” and is primarily responsible for the leading the execution of the Retail Plan for the area, including both distribution and merchandising at retail and wholesale level. Ensure compliance and delivery of MARS/Wrigley coverage allocation and plans.

Retail Conditions :
Responsible for the team’s execution against corporately defined priorities which includes ensuring the presence of all authorized Mars Chocolate/Wrigley Canada. products at the point of sale through maintenance and distribution of products, merchandising, display, and shelf rotation for optimal product freshness.
Responsible for working in the field with Retail Representatives on a regular basis, and tracking performance against objectives. (60% of time)

Retail Representative Development :
Development through tracking performance against team and individual KPIs, and arranging for targeted training.
Accountable for the organization of the performance development process, which includes input into performance reviews with the guidance of the Segment Retail Manager.
Participates in the hiring process for all Retail Representative positions within area of responsibility.

Account Conditions :
Sell company products, programs and promotions to achieve assigned account objectives.
Responsible for example, securing and maintaining authorized distribution of company products, selling/merchandising Company promotions and programs and understanding/Analyzing entire operation of allotted territory accounts.

Retail Sales Coverage Analysis :
Participate in the formulation of retail objectives policies and procedures through hand-held technology data.
Reviews, evaluates and reports on coverage plans recommending new coverage plans to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
Makes recommendations as to effectiveness of H.O. promotions &, programs at both retail and wholesale.

Relationships :
Establishes and maintains sound business relationships with the trade (eg: DM level at Walmart), Mars Wrigley Customer Leaders, and sales associates.

Communication :
Prioritize and communicate joint retail objectives to Retail Representatives to ensure flawless execution (team meetings, communication platforms ie email etc.).

Administration :
Completes all assigned reports in a timely manner via electronic format, hard copy, or voice mails. Ensures that company policy/procedure for credits and samples are followed.
Approving and validating weekly expenses, time in call, mileage and self-reported data
Coordinates and provides input into annual performance reviews, which includes development plans for skill enhancement.

Cost Control :
District Sales Manager controls activities to ensure that sales costs are maintained within operational budget including;
Exercise sound judgement when incurring business expenses and corporate policies.
Exercise of proper care in handling all company property and equipment including company vehicle
Control of trade related investment expenditure in line with business objectives (samples etc.)

Personal Development :
works with line manager in developing a program of self-improvement to increase job knowledge and skills
Execution of projects and assignments as required by the line manager and overall business

Special Projects :
May be responsible for supporting all other sales productivity and initiatives as required

Other :
All other duties and responsibilities as assigned
