The Finance Services Department, Budgets & Accounting Division, seeks a detailed oriented individual with outstanding work ethic, ability to plan and prioritize work along with a safety first attitude to join their team. The Payroll Clerk is responsible for data entry work of limited complexity in processing and maintaining employee time records and related information in a computerized payroll system. This entry level role collects and enters hours of work, reported absences, job codes and time reporting codes into time the payroll system; ensures information entered is accurate and recorded correctly; maintains and updates related employee records as required.

Requirements:
Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by payroll or other relevant courses, plus some related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience;
Preference will be given to candidates with their Payroll Compliance Practitioner certification;
Sound knowledge of the methods, principles and practices governing employee remuneration, benefits and entitlements as related to the preparation of payrolls;
Sound knowledge of the applicable rules and regulations governing the work;
Desire to continually learn, improve processes, improve skills and grow within the field of Payroll/Finance;
Ability to handle sensitive personal data with discretion and confidentiality;
Ability to deal tactfully with internal customers and stakeholders in a courteous, professional and effective manner;
Ability to work cooperatively and amicably in a team environment with a safety first attitude;
Ability to understand and apply regulations, payroll procedures and applicable information from collective agreements;
Ability to verify the proper recording of information in the payroll system; preference will be given to those with experience using iCity;
Ability to troubleshoot and effective use of analytical skills to present solutions to problems.
Ability to operate computer equipment, spreadsheets and software used in the work;
Ability to perform the work within prescribed deadlines;
Ability to effectively communicate, verbal and written, and demonstrate excellent listening skills;

The hourly wage of this unionized position is $24.36 – 28.55 hourly (2019 rates) with some benefits offered.
