The Environmental Monitor will be responsible for performing field activities and office activities related to the collection, assessment, and reporting of environmental data. As much of the assignment will involve travel and work in remote areas, the successful candidate must be able to act independently, exercise sound judgment, and have a good sense of humour. Typical duties will include the following:
Collection of surface and groundwater water samples
Measurement of field parameters
Preparation of notes and observations
Collection of data according to prescribed procedures, processes and standards
Surveying the locations of data collection points
Entering and validation of data in various software
Use of specialized equipment to monitor and analyze samples
Assisting with management of environmental data
Assisting with preparation of technical reports
Participation in a wide variety of contaminated site investigations and remediation projects
Perform other duties as assigned.
Earth Sciences or Biology Technologist Diploma or equivalent
>2 years of experience in planning and conducting environmental investigations and monitoring; Mine site field work experience preferred
Laboratory analyses experience an asset
Proven ability to prepare reports and documentation
Proven ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Must be comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in various elemental conditions including rain, snow, heat, cold, etc.
Experience operating equipment including ATV’s, snowmobile, and boats an asset
Ability to lift up to 20 kg
Valid class 5 driver’s license
Proficient computer skills -Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.)
