Patient populations on various units can include general pediatric medicine, general surgery, trauma, brain injury, neuro, nephrology, orthopedics, plastic surgery, endocrinology, metabolics, respiratory, eating disorders, mental health & overflow oncology. As the Service Worker you will provide support to the patients and staff and may assist all areas/ the site when capacity/ patient needs require the same. This role works under supervision to perform supportive activities, which contributes to the efficient and effective functioning of the Unit(s). Duties include, but are not limited to, stocking, ordering forms and supplies, cleaning, maintain inventory, equipment maintenance, interaction with patients/families. The role can be physically demanding and involves bending, reaching, lifting and carrying of items as well as periods of standing and walking, & computer work. This role requires proficiency in multi-tasking, judgement, problem solving and decision making. This position involves working collaboratively with the Unit team, the multidisciplinary team, other support staff, and members of teams from other areas/departments. The ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative is required. You will also be expected to work under time constraints, within a fast paced changing environment, have exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to adapt communication styles to meet the needs of our team and convey/demonstrate AHS’ five core values. As a Service Worker I, you may transport patients (clients, residents) and equipment to and from different units as well as distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout the units. You may also transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, patient charts, and clean patient care equipment. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required.

Additional Required Qualifications:
Ability to read, write, comprehend and fluently speak English. Basic computer skills using Microsoft Office including email, calendar and Excel capabilities. One year experience in an inventory management system within an acute care setting. Ability to lift equipment, supplies and linen up to 10 Kgs. Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as pushing/pulling wheelchairs; beds; equipment, stocking of supplies requiring kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, finger dexterity, and reaching above or below shoulder, on a regular basis.
Basic medical terminology and medical equipment/supply knowledge is beneficial. Able to prioritize work and cope with frequent interruptions. Demonstrated ability to problem solve. Demonstrated organizational skills. Proficiency in network and software applications/ programs such as I-Proc, etc.
