Are you an experienced Chef who wants to take your career to the next level? Do you love food and enjoy teaching others about it? ATCO Blue Flame Kitchen is looking to add to our culinary instructors’ team at the Calgary learning centre location.

The Chef Instructor is responsible for instruction of culinary classes and preparation of a variety of foods in accordance with strict food safety and sanitation standards for catering events, television productions and/or ingredients for cooking classes and demonstrations. Active participation in recipe development and testing, including research is also expected.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in research, development and testing of recipes for facility use and for cookbooks
  • Participates in development, planning and execution of event menus
  • Participates in the planning and preparation of menu items for television productions
  • Participates in planning and preparation of food for cooking classes and demonstrations
  • Leads instruction for a variety of cooking classes and is prepared to demonstrate techniques or subject knowledge in cooking classes and demonstrations
  • Prepares, seasons, and cooks a wide variety of food items in accordance with prescribed recipes using a full range of cooking methods.
  • Checks supplies and prep lists and ensures all items are prepped in a timely fashion.
  • Complies with health and safety best practices and regulations in handling and storage of food products and kitchen equipment
  • Takes leadership responsibility during absence of Lead, Culinary Programs and able to oversee the back end of food operation is imperative
  • Ensures that all equipment in the kitchen is clean and in good working condition before use
  • Seeks opportunities to increase revenues, minimize expenses and increase employee productivity without sacrificing guest services
  • Acts as a media spokesperson when required
  • Represents ATCO Group of Companies and ATCO Blue Flame Kitchen at external events
  • Conducts training for other personal
  • Orders of food products and restaurant supplies when required
  • Develops and delivers programing for kids age 9-12
  • Develops and delivers classes and events on the ATCO Home on-the-go Mobile Unit.
  • Conceptualize, develop and deliver a large variety and style of menus, classes and events

Qualifications

  • Diploma in a culinary program from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • Journeyman’s ticket and Red Seal certification is an asset
  • 3 to-5 years industry experience, with a strong background in line-cooking
  • Team player that is willing to assist with any events in which the BFK team is involved.
  • Customer service oriented
  • Excellent presentation skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to work in a close team workspace and environment
  • Strong initiative and able to multitask in a fast paced, multidisciplinary environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft office
  • Available to work evening and weekends as required
