Position Summary:

The Employment Youth Worker is the key worker for the SHIFT Culinary and Employment Program at the Broadway Youth Resource Centre. SHIFT provides employment skills training to small cohorts of youth ages 18 to 24 experiencing barriers to employment. The program is based on demand-led employment principals, and it works with the food and hospitality sector to develop workshops, integrate potential employers, and build an understanding of the importance of employing youth. The program provides training workshops and direct work experience for entry-level positions in the culinary industry.

This position requires a sound understanding of employment and youth work. The successful candidate will have demonstrated knowledge and experience in mental health, employment, and demand-led principles. A passion for engaging youth in culinary employment and careers is essential to the project.

Primary Duties:

  • Intake youth into the SHIFT program and develop learning plans.
  • Promote the SHIFT program to external stakeholders and community programs.
  • Facilitate curriculum for employment-related workshops that integrate employer feedback and participation.
  • Establish strong connections to employment partners, and integrate partners into the curriculum and program activities.
  • Facilitate feedback opportunities for participants and employers based on the outcomes plan.
  • Provide ongoing follow up to program alumni following a touchback model.
  • Liaise with counsellors, doctors, social workers, and other relevant professionals and programs as needed.
  • Maintain program documentation, which includes: participant files, program manual, finance documentation, and program reports.
  • Manage your own time efficiently and work with a collaborative team framework.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with the team, other service providers, employers, youth care teams, and members of the community.

Academic and Job Experience Required:

BSW or B.A. in a related field plus one year experience, or a two-year child and youth care diploma plus two years’ experience or the equivalent. Additional mental health and/or culinary training is considered an asset.

Basic Requirements:

  • Criminal record check including the vulnerable sector
  • Standard first-aid certificate and CPR

Desired Requirements:

  • Crisis intervention and de-escalation training
  • Understanding of youth employment and employer engagement
  • Strong understanding of anti-oppression and decolonizing practice
  • Training to assess depression/suicide/mental health an asset
  • Trained in trauma-informed practice

Salary Range: $24.01hour – $27.33/hour, Plus term benefit package (100% employer paid)
