The City of Edmonton lights and maintains over 1500 trees as part of a decorative tree lighting program and the Crew Leader plays a key role in these operations. One of the primary responsibilities of our Tree Lighting Crew Leader is to supervise the teams in the evenings or early mornings. Some of the other aspects of this Crew Leader position will extend to work planning, managing inventories, initiating procurement, quality control, working with and mentoring the team, and backfilling for absences to ensure performance targets are met.

As a Crew Leader for Tree Lighting you will:
Provide field level supervision and hands on leadership for crews performing a wide variety of semi-skilled manual duties in the delivery of approved work plans
Monitor and track inventory levels as well as the procurement of materials and make recommendations to the supervisor about procurement needs
Monitor and ensure accuracy of the lit tree inventory in the urban forest, by working with the tree inventory team for map creation and updates
Knowledge of equipment and tools used for tree lighting, ability to safely operate equipment such as aerial bucket trucks, chainsaws, and various hand tools
Ensure consistency of service levels
Assess the condition of tree lighting around the City
Monitor patterns of outages, and general performance of light strings and work closely with other internal stakeholders to ensure work plan and deadlines are met
Be responsible for communication with and maintaining effective working relationships with customers, the public and crew members, as well as other branches/departments that assist with tree lighting infrastructure
Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety and ENVISO
Track expenditures and provide input into monthly and annual variance reporting
Assist with the registration, orientation and training of staff
Inspect and approve completed work
Promote a safe work environment
Monitor and evaluate attendance and performance of crew members
Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications :
2 year diploma in a related field
3 years progressively responsible experience in parks construction, maintenance and operations, including
1 year of labour experience in parks and/or urban forestry operations
Demonstrated supervisory skills and abilities International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) certification would be considered an asset
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) Google Suite is required
Experience with interpreting or creating inventory maps is an asset
Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
Standard First-Aid level C with AED
Must be physically capable of performing the duties assigned to the class and be able to work in all weather conditions
Must be able to work shift work including nights and weekends
Knowledge of safety precautions

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week
4-10 hour shifts or 5-8 hour shifts depending on the season
Hours of work are from 6:00pm to 4:00am

Salary: $35.925 (Hourly); $75,011.400 (Annually)
