McElhanney Ltd. seeks a Senior Transportation Design Project Manager to join our team of highly successful and well-respected project managers, engineers and designers in our busy Vancouver office. The right candidate will lead, mentor and provide technical supervision to a highly motivated team of highway design engineers and technologists, delivering design and construction projects for all levels of government across BC.
In this role you will work collaboratively with our inter-disciplinary team of Engineers, Planners, Landscape Architects and Environmental Scientists providing innovative and integrated consulting services to our clients. This is a great opportunity for a Senior Design Engineer to grow their career with a well-established company.
Serve as the client contact, project managing highway design projects across BC
Direct a team of designers in preparing cost effective, accurate and timely transportation engineering designs and drawings that meet all client and approval agency requirements and standards
Develop concept designs and advance them to the detailed design stage, also overseeing cost estimates
Prepare tender document special provisions and specifications
Collaborate with peers to manage staff workload
Project manage major highway design projects to ensure schedules, budgets and quality control standards are achieved
Build business relationships and prepare proposals
Civil Engineering Degree or Technology Diploma from an accredited university or college with over 12 years’ experience in a design role
Registration in good standing as a PEng or EngL with EGBC
Experience managing projects with a minimum capital value of $10 million
Experience in managing and tracking project scope, schedule and budget
Proficiency in AutoCad Civil 3D and other design software, particularly in the application of roadway and highway geometric design
Experience with preparation and delivery of construction level design drawing packages for highway projects
Knowledge of drainage, utility, hydrotechnical, geotechnical and environmental disciplines to fulfill Coordinating Engineer role
Able to interpret client requirements and engineer solutions
Proficient at preparing tender documents and writing technical provisions
Working knowledge of TAC, Alberta and BC MoTI Supplement to TAC Design Guidelines
Attention to detail and excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
Ability to work independently within a busy and high-performing team
Experience in training/supervising/mentoring junior technical staff
