As a member of the Teck Digital Systems (TDS) team you will be exposed to cutting edge mining, mineral processing, and information technology, such as Machine Learning, Automation, and Real Time ore sorting. You may also have an opportunity to learn more about data science techniques and perform analytics on real time data. In 2019 Teck implemented a strategy called RACE21™. This initiative is taking a company-wide approach to Renewing our technology infrastructure, looking at opportunities for Automation and robotics, Connecting data systems to enable broad application of advanced analytics and artificial intelligence, and Empowering our employees, with a focus on making real progress between now and 2021. Successful candidates will have the following qualifications and responsibilities:
Working towards an Undergraduate degree in Computer, Software, or Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or other related discipline
Motivated self-starter with the ability to manage several projects simultaneously
Comfortable working in a dynamic work environment with a willingness to work outdoors. Some positions will be required to operate vehicles at our operations
Previous work experience in a technical or engineering environment is an asset
Collaborate with a team to continually improve the current mining systems across the operations to improve production, quality, reliability, accessibility, and credibility of Teck Digital Systems
Create and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to help improve the way we do business
Participate in Teck’s health and safety programs to ensure that everyone on site goes home safe and healthy every day
We have multiple positions within our TDS team and specific areas of expertise for each:
Environmental Systems Co-op
Create data based solutions for Environmental systems using Microsoft SQL Server: SQL Server Database, Integration and Report Services, Analysis Services, Power BI Dashboarding, and DAX coding
Utilize C#, ASP.NET, VBA, PowerShell, Java, Google Cloud Services, Big Query, Kubernetes as well as Machine Learning libraries in Python, and TersorFlow
Data Developer Co-op
Operational support for analytics tools, software development with .NET, Java, Python, and SQL
Processing Systems Support Co-op
Support processing systems in an industrial environment while gaining exposure to Networking
Interest and/or experience in Industrial Cyber Security, assist with day to day security requirements, and troubleshoot and resolve user application security issues in a timely manner
Data Scientist Co-op
Preference will be for an Electronics or Software Development Engineer
Support RACE21™ technology delivery with operational support in TDS
Business Improvement Co-op
Strong analytics background with experience in programming in multiple platforms, such as Python or SQL
Interest in Business Intelligence tools for Key Performance Indicator (KPI) visualizations, such as Power BI
Interest in machine learning applications, with background in applied statistics or other relevant disciplines
Strong problem solving skills, data analytics background, self-motivated with good inter-personal communication, and interest in developing these skills through the co-op term
Mining Engineering Systems Co-op
Implement and support various custom developed solutions in the Mine Engineering space, such as Mine Planning, Geology, Scheduling, and Mine Design
Support QA, software development, software release management, system configuration, and deployment
Industrial Networking Co-op
Gain knowledge and experience in LAN / Cisco switching and wireless technologies
Network Architecture Co-op
Work with TDS lab initiative on network deployments, configuration change evaluations, firmware/hardware upgrades, and architectural changes
All students will be required to complete pre-employment drug testing prior to commencing work.
