This professional holds a recognized post-secondary degree from a university or college preferably in Teaching English as a Second Language, Education, or Linguistics, and has taken specific courses in teaching ESL. This individual needs to have at least 2 years of experience teaching LINC to adults and have cross-cultural experience and ability to relate to other cultures. Evidence of continuous professional development to update the knowledge of current practices and resources in the field is important. Previous experience with Canadian Language Benchmarks/LINC is required. Familiarity with computer programs and resources for ESL students is a requirement.
The candidate must be able to obtain appropriate and authentic materials and plan to teach adults using a variety of methods and task-based activities. Additional responsibilities include assessing the needs, objectives and goals of students; provide appropriate feedback and maintain a record of their progress based on Canadian Language Benchmarks. All LINC facilitators are required to implement Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA) approach in their teaching.
