As a Community Health Worker 2 at Vancouver Coastal Health you will make your impact by:

Providing home support services to clients while working under the direction of the Supervisor/Coordinator/Manager or delegate.
Assisting clients with the activities of daily living within varied settings to promote maximum independence.
Observing and documenting on your clients’ health conditions and environment, reporting significant and unsafe observations and providing support and guidance.
Providing input and feedback in the care planning process.
Assisting in meeting the nutritional and elimination needs of clients.
Performing additional delegated tasks under the Transfer of Function guidelines for clients in specific situations for which training has been provided.

TRAINING OPPORTUNITY

Vancouver Coastal Health is offering this sponsorship opportunity for you to become a Community Health Care Worker 2 in Home Support on the Sunshine Coast.

Sponsorship consists of VCH funded tuition and books to applicants who apply and are successful in obtaining a regular full time position as a Community Health Worker 2 position which they commence upon successful completion of the program.

Eligibility for the VCH Sponsorship:
Must meet admission requirements of Capilano University - Sechelt - Health Care Assistant Certificate Program.
Must have a valid BC driver's license and use of a personal vehicle.

Preference will be given to applicants currently living on the Sunshine Coast. Applicants must successfully complete the Health Care Assistant Certificate program through Capilano University Sechelt prior to working in Home Support.

Sponsorship of the education program requires full time attendance.

Candidates accepting this sponsorship opportunity agree to remain with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a regular full-time Community Health Worker 2 on the Sunshine Coast for at least 12 months subsequent to completing training.
In the event that a candidate leaves the position which they were hired to in under 12 months, VCH will seek to recover the cost of the program.

Full Time training: September 1 to April 2021

Home Support provides a range of support options designed to help people with ongoing health conditions to remain in their homes and to be as independent and safe as possible. Home Care Teams provide case management and home care nursing services, with healthcare professionals who care for clients with kindness & dignity, while ensuring their safety and well-being.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience

Grade 10.
Graduation from a recognized Home Support/Resident Care Aide program or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Registration with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
Valid BC Drivers License. Local travel requires the use of a personal vehicle.

Knowledge & Abilities

Home management skills.
Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others.
Ability to operate related equipment.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally in writing.
Ability to organize and prioritize.
Ability to observe and recognize changes in clients.
Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients.
