Job Overview:
Reporting to the Senior Director, Health and Safety, the Workers Compensation Program Manager will be responsible for managing, enhancing and maintaining the company’s workers compensation program on a national basis. The incumbent will be responsible for managing and maintaining the day-to-day relationship with our Third Party Administrator (TPA) for Workers Compensation.

Responsibilities:
Internal Support

Support the National Health and Safety Team in the administration of the Workers Compensation Program via liaises with our TPA.
Collaborate with various teams, including Medical Services, Human Resources, Legal, and Operation teams as needed for problematic claims.
Regularly monitor Off Work and Modified Duties reports and work with TPA for the best strategy possible in returning the colleague back to the workplace/ regular duties.
Develop, maintain and communicate policies, standards and guidelines pertaining to the reintegration of colleagues into the workforce.
Continuously evaluate the Early and Safe Return to Work Program and processes to develop strategies for process improvements.
In conjunction with the TPA, manage the implementation of the Preferred Provider Program (PPP) nationally, developing tools to assist facility managers and colleagues in adoption of the program.
Develop and conduct training sessions as required for facility managers, Human Resources and the Health and Safety Team on Workplace Injury Reporting, the ESRTW program, Preferred Provider Program and First Aid First Program.
Maintain the department’s library of Job Demands Analysis (JDAs). Review and approve JDAs for any new position.
Participate in meetings as required with the Health and Safety Team, Facility Managers, and Unions.
Support the Health and Safety Team as required with chargeback disputes.
Be the key point of contact for Finance for all workers compensation related inquiries (Account information, payroll, hours etc.).
Assist the Sr. Director, Health and Safety in analyzing Injury data on a period, quarterly and annual basis for the preparation of Board updates.
Retain workplace injury period reports in accordance with the Company’s records retention standards for business critical records.
Process medical and consultant invoices for workers’ compensation claims.

Third Part Administrator (TPA)

Manage the end-to-end contract with our TPA, ensuring they are fulfilling their obligations and maintaining a consistent service delivery model across all regions.
Work with the TPA for the ongoing enhancements to their reporting programs and tools.
Assist the TPA with resolution of issues relating to the facility reporting requirements and payroll requirements.
Track problematic claims to ensure the TPA is fulfilling their contract obligations (reviewing appeals and IMEs where required).
Assist the TPA and Facility Managers with the reintegration of colleagues into the workplace, through development of Early and Safe Return to Work (ESRTW) plans and accommodation plans (for permanent disabilities).

Role Requirements:
Minimum 3-5 years of WCB claims and account related experience across Canada (including Quebec).
Detailed knowledge of Provincial WCB requirements and processes and the ability to interact with Provincial WCB authorities.
5 to 7 years progressive experience with demonstrated knowledge in the area of occupational health and safety management practices (i.e. post-secondary degree or field experience, or combination of both).
Sound knowledge of Federal and Provincial Occupational Health & Safety legislation would be an asset.
Exposure to Retail Industry supporting both union and non-union colleagues highly desirable.
Bilingualism would be an asset.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach and provide consultative advice.
Excellent communication (written, oral and presentation), interpersonal and people management skills.
Experience preparing reports and presenting effectively to various levels of management.
Strong analytical capabilities and ability to synthesize complex information into accessible and meaningful business guidance.
A positive attitude, a desire to learn, and a willingness to roll up your sleeves to get work done.
Strong ethics, commitment to inclusion and integrity.
Valid provincial driver’s license.
Travel may be required (within Canada).
