Job Summary

As Director, Field Operations, you will be responsible for providing the overall management of Field Operations and associated on-site Construction Projects. Your mandate will be to deliver the effective management and execution of all projects, budget, and schedules, as well as to meet/exceed Arguson and client expectations of quality, safety, and delivery.

As part of this role you will also be the conduit between the Project Management team and Field Teams to resolve any on-site, scheduling and sub-contractor issues. Your role will be the voice of Field Operations while also maintaining relationships with the other Project Teams, clients and other project stakeholders.

Perform all functions and responsibilities in accordance with Arguson’s values and beliefs.

Leadership Responsibilities

· Work closely with the leadership group to establish the direction of Field Operations

· Provide leadership, mentorship and support to current and future staff members pertaining to Field Operations

· Liaise and work with all internal and external project stakeholders to ensure successful completion of all construction projects

· Professionally represent Arguson Projects as a Senior Manager, and continually manage existing and new client relationships

· Retain and expand your team as needed by working with the HR team to ensure all best practices are maintained

· Stay current with industry trends and best practices

Specific Job Duties & Responsibilities

· Able to independently take on multiple and concurrent construction projects with limited guidance through prioritizing project activities and exercising influence over the project team(s)

· Manage the on-site team(s) by effectively communicating, coordinating and delegating tasks to ensure high quality service and worker morale

· Management of all Field Resources including assigning of Site Managers/Superintendents, assessing current and future project workload to ensure adequate resources are available

· Monitor work performance and efficiency of Site Managers/Superintendents, labour and subcontractors to ensure project scope of work, budget and schedules are followed

· Ensure project materials and workmanship meet the standards of quality of Arguson Projects Inc.

· Provide input on constructability and logistics in advance of project commencement

· Plan construction projects and review schedules in conjunction with the Field and Project Management team

· Provide feedback during the preconstruction/estimating process as required

· Read, analyze, and review contract drawings and sub-contracts to ensure accuracy

· Monitor construction project budgets, labour and material in conjunction with the Site Manager/Superintendent according to project requirements, and communicate any scope gaps or adjustments to the Project Management team, as needed.

· Identify risks and solve any problems related to the projects in an effective and timely manner

· Manage the accurate and timely submission of all Field Operation and on-site construction documentation related to projects under construction

· Ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget and all deficiencies are properly and promptly resolved

· Coordinate, manage and communicate with all subcontractors to effectively deal with problems such as delivery, labour, schedule and payment disputes, evaluate solutions and take the initiative to ensure the best solution is delivered

· Assist as required with document turnover at completion of project: project close-out documentation, including inspections, consultant sign offs and required documentation

· Ensure a safe and secure construction site by providing safety leadership, encouraging safe work practices, and monitoring safety performance of all Field Operations and subcontractors, in accordance with all applicable legislation

· Communicate with all Project Managers, Coordinators, Architects, and subcontractors to effectively deal with problems such as project delivery, labour and construction schedules

· Hold and attend project meetings as required in conjunction with the Field and Project Management teams

· Maintain a good working knowledge of trade unions, their agreements and stipulations

· Provide overall quality control and management of all construction projects.

· Provide other duties as requested and required

Minimum Qualifications

· 10+ years of experience within an ICI Construction environment, ideally with a substantial amount of on-site presence with good building experience

Education & Certifications

· University/College Degree in Project Management, Construction Management, or Technical curriculum or equivalent professional experience

· Valid G-Driver’s license

Knowledge, Experience, & Technical Skills

· 10+ years related experience within the construction industry

· Strong leadership skills

· Proficiency in reading construction drawings, specifications and shop drawings

· Project and/or Field Management Experience

· Ability to conceptually build a project in your head based on 2D drawings or concepts

· Proven safety record. Experience with COR (Certificate of Recognition) is a strong asset

· Proficiency in Project/Field Management and/or Health & Safety software is a strong asset

· Thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards and their impact on project activities

· Crisis resolution and risk management

· Strong organizational skills with proven efficiency to handle multiple projects at one time

· Superior communication and interpersonal skills and proven ability to effectively communicate with all levels of an organization and external stakeholders

· Strong negotiation skills with ability to influence team members, vendors, and other stakeholders

· Ability to work under time constraints and adapt to change

· Strong attention to detail

· Ability to work within a team environment

· Ability to apply innovative and effective management techniques to maximize employee performance including performance reviews and disciplinary actions

· Has a customer-service focus and ensures that clients’ needs are met and dealt with professionally

· Effective decision-making skills through use of sound judgement and technical knowledge

· Experience in various areas of the construction process, project planning and scheduling, team building and mentoring

· Advanced understanding of Canadian regulations relating to compliance on building permits and construction codes

· Proficient in Construction Health & Safety requirements and environmental hazards and controls

· Proficient computer skills in MS products including MS Project software
