Located in Vancouver, BC, the School is home to 530 students and a faculty and staff of over 85

educational excellence in the Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma Programmes.

Position Rationale:
After school Care (ASC), Clubs, Summer School and Summer Camps are offered to parents of
students in kindergarten to grade 7 and are an integral part of the school. The Classroom
Support/After School Care Worker-Lead will work with the Auxiliary Programs Coordinator to assist
in the programming for camps that occur during school breaks and After School Care Activities for
students. During the school day, the Classroom Support/After School Care Worker-Lead is part of
the Child Care (CC) team that will provide supervision duties during breaks in order to free up
teachers for planning time and then during class time, provide in-class support in the PYP.

  • Education: high school diploma
  • Work experience: previous work experience with children, preferably in a school setting
Key Responsibilities and Duties:School Day:
  • In-class support to Kindergarten-Grade 7 teachers;
  • Supervision duty during breaks (recess/lunch);
  • Facilitate student learning by following the teacher’s directions in working with
individuals and groups of students;

  • Assist with the setup, use and organization of learning resources; and
  • Be active in the classroom to help reinforce behavioural expectations, redirecting
students as necessary.

After School Care (ASC) and Camps:
(In addition to working in the ASC Program during the school year, the Classroom
Assistant/After School Care Worker-Lead also works in day camps during winter, spring and
summer holidays)

  • Assist in the provision of a variety of age appropriate learning and play opportunities
that align with the IB mission and vision

  • Support and advise less experienced workers in activities
  • Assist Auxiliary Programs Coordinator with ongoing program development
  • Lead groups of children in specific sport, game craft and learning activities; manage
behaviours and adapt the activity to meet the needs of groups or individuals.
