Your Opportunity:
The Laboratory Assistant I will provide support to the laboratory by collecting and processing quality specimens for analysis. Under the direct supervision of a Medical Laboratory Assistant II, the primary responsibilities include collection of blood specimens from adults and children using macro and micro phlebotomy techniques, sorting and matching specimens to requisitions, accessioning patient information into the laboratory computer system, troubleshooting problem specimens and reception duties. The successful candidate may rotate into the Outpatient Laboratory.

Description:
As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program.

Additional Required Qualifications:
Phlebotomy experience is required. Successful demonstration of laboratory skills is required. Working within a team environment, good interpersonal skills, effective time management and the ability to set priorities are necessary. Must be adaptable and flexible within an environment of change and interruptions. Must have the ability to listen, comprehend and orally respond to or relay information, directions or questions in person, over the phone, or in writing in an accurate, clear and concise manner. Must be able to represent Alberta Precision Laboratories in a respectful, professional and courteous manner.

Preferred Qualifications:
Recent phlebotomy experience is preferred. Knowledge and training in EPIC-Beaker is also preferred.
