Summer Marketing Assistant
Are you looking for a summer position where you can make a significant impact in the local community? The Mississauga Food Bank’s vision is a Mississauga where no one goes hungry. Our mission is relieving hunger in Mississauga by providing and promoting access to healthy food for people in need.
Put your theoretical knowledge in marketing, journalism, photography, fundraising, or public relations into action in a busy non-profit. Use the opportunity to work with and learn from experienced non-profit professionals.
Procure videos, photos, and interviews to support the next year of marketing and fundraising efforts. Support summer community outreach events. Assist in creating materials that will be used to help feed your hungry neighbours.
Conduct Interviews and Gather Promotional Footage
Source client, volunteer, and supporter stories to use in organizational marketing and fundraising materials by conducting interviews at the food bank and agencies
Source Individual Portraits and Video Footage of interview subjects to accompany client, volunteer, and supporter stories in promotional materials (working with a partner photographer/videographer or taken yourself)
Track the use of images and stories in promotional and campaign materials in the database
Other Marketing Tasks
Transfer and tag video and photo assets in the digital asset management system
Assist in the implementation of a client outreach program to provide information on where those living in poverty can find emergency food programs
Research opportunities and coordinate logistics for participating in community events that serve to raise awareness of TMFB’s mission and work
Assist in the writing, editing, design, and production of marketing materials (digital and otherwise) such as blog/social media posts, email newsletters, fundraising appeals, impact reports, posters and other promotional materials.
Support other staff and activities of TMFB, as required.
To be eligible, applicants must:
be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial legislation and regulations
Desired Skills and Experience
Experience in a charity, public relations, marketing, or similar environment
Studying for a college diploma or university degree in a relevant field
Graphic Design, Videography, and/or Photography skills an asset
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Flexible team-player with versatile skills. You’re highly motivated, self-directed, a problem-solver, and enjoy variety in your work.
Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
Strong MS Office or G Suite skills (all programs). TMFB is a cloud-based paperless environment.
Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality at all times

Relationship: This position reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications
Position Type: 35 hours/week, hourly
Working Hours: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9 am-5 pm, Wednesday from 9 am-8 pm
Contract Dates: June 29, to October 2 (16 weeks)
