As a critical member of the Canada Finance team, you will bring strong technical accounting knowledge and lead the transactional accounting function in Canada and have primary responsibility for providing accurate and timely reporting and financial results in adherence to IFRS and company policies. You will own the relationship with the shared service provider and ensure the needs of the business are being executed properly and be an active contributor in all future state developments.

Accounting, Reporting, Policies and Procedures

Develop, recommend and implement accounting policies and practices
Provide accurate reporting and analysis of results including but not limited to executive level management reporting, period end financial statement preparation, governmental and regulatory required reporting
Oversight of all transactional accounting functions (both on and offshore) and liaise with other departments for issue reconciliation
Manage all internal and external audits of the Canadian business and support colleagues in other jurisdictions with audits where needed
Manage the close calendar in accordance with Messer requirements, including coordination of resources (both direct reports and other contributors)
Ensure proper reporting of financial position and accurate recording of all transactions through analysis of assets, liabilities and all business activities
Own the balance sheet reconciliation process
Cash flow management responsibilities, including identifying issues and recommending changes to the finance team
Lead the accounting and subsequent monitoring of all purchases and sales
Relationship Management

Manage the direct relationships and performance of shared service provider and coordinate with the provider on behalf of the business, ensuring the needs of the business are being executed properly and be an active contributor in all future state developments.
Liaise with and support tax team where required, ensuring compliance with all tax requirements while positioning Messer Canada for the most advantageous tax treatment possible
As part of the Canadian financial leadership team, be a key agent of change and improvement, ultimately ensuring all business goals are achieved.

Maintain strong working knowledge of all company systems
Build and develop the department into a key business partner to the rest of Messer North America
Work towards continuous improvement and efficiency gains.
Carry out decision making authority within Messer policies and use of sound judgement
Support Canada finance and the rest of the Canadian business with other planning, forecasting, monitoring and reporting needs.
Participate in cross functional projects


Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Math or related field.
Minimum ten (10) years of experience in accounting/finance environment, with a minimum of five (5) within leadership capacity (public or private experience)
In-depth knowledge of ERP Systems (SAP)
Experience working with and managing off-shore provider of back office services
Advanced knowledge of MS Excel
Working knowledge of MS Power Point (ThinkCell); and Tableau
Strong analytical skills bringing insights to numbers and trends
Good communication and presentation skills – ability to share and convey insights to be used in good business decision making
Strong organizational and work planning skills; adherence to deadlines

Working knowledge of COGNOS TM1 Planning and Reporting software a plus
Manufacturing industry experience a plus
