Your Opportunity:
Working under the general supervision of the management staff of the Southern Alberta Transplant Program, the Unit Clerk is responsible for a variety clerical duties. Many of the duties associated with this position involve sensitive and confidential information. These duties include answering telephones, entering data into ALTRAweb (transplant specific database), processing of physician’s orders, booking appointments, diagnostic imaging tests and procedures, filing, data entry and chart maintenance.

Description:
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.

Additional Required Qualifications:
Recent experience with patient scheduling and booking of patient’s tests required. Demonstrated computer knowledge with Word, Excel, PCIS (Patient Care Information System) including SCM and Clinibase, Millennium Scheduler required. Demonstrated problem solving and decision making skills are necessary to anticipate, identify and independently recommend appropriate actions to complex administrative problems. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and maintain good working relationships with patients and families, the multidisciplinary team and other hospital and community departments. Demonstrated ability to function independently, be self-directed and exhibit initiative. Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Recent experience in Kidney, Heart, Liver and Lung Transplant is an asset. Medical Terminology is an asset. Demonstrated computer knowledge with Filemaker and Paris is an asset. Ability to prepare spreadsheets, organizational charts, flowcharts and presentations.
