Job Description

Location:

· Local to Bonnyville / Cold Lake area

General Statement of Duties:

*Must be local to Bonnyville/Cold Lake area

  • Safely and efficiently operates drilling and hoisting equipment, manages the rig floor and Driller’s console, and supervises all members of the crew while on duty.
  • This position will be required to provide coverage as a relief Rig Manager.

Supervision Received:

  • Supervisor(s) as indicated in offer letter; reporting to the Rig Manager.

Supervision Exercised:

· Supervises, mentors, and trains the rig crew.

Summary of Duties (Duties may include, but are not limited to the following):

  • Operate drilling and hoisting equipment efficiently
  • Ensure all crew members perform assigned tasks safely, efficiently and within the parameters of company policies
  • Complete blowout prevention (BOP) drills and equipment checks as prescribed by company policy
  • Ensure that all documentation is completed, such as: Safety Meeting, Near Miss/Hazard ID, DROPS Program, etc.

· Ensures the regular scheduled maintenance of the Rig

· Report any observed problems pertaining to equipment, working practices, or attitudes to the Rig Manager

· Pick-up and drive the crew members to work in the morning

· Organizes the crew for activities and assigns jobs to the different crew members

· Trains new crew members and organizes crew training drills

  • Follows relevant policies, regulations and standards according to JHAs
  • Operates and maintains mobile service rig (engines, gearboxes, drive shafts, power take offs, manual slack adjusters, rear ends)
  • Installs tire chains on equipment
  • Drives in convoy and performs and understands logbook responsibilities
  • Understands responsibilities and actions required in the event of a blow out or kick
  • Inspects all rig equipment and ensures that it is operated safely and efficiently
  • Maintains, troubleshoots and demonstrates a thorough working knowledge of closing unit and accumulator system
  • Runs sucker rods out of the rod basket, trips pipe in and out of hole, lays pipe down or picks up pipe off of the ground
  • Understands swabbing techniques necessary to achieve flow
  • Tests and sets crown saver
  • Picks up and tails tubulars
  • Performs BOP drills and understands each crew members responsibilities including his own
  • Demonstrates competence in off-highway driving
  • Performs pre trip and post trip inspections on rig carrier
  • Maintains familiarity with ERP responsibilities for all crew members including his own
  • Slips and cuts drill line
  • Pours rope socket
  • Removes well head and installs BOP’s
  • Raises/lowers and rigs in/out derrick
  • Maintains and inspects rod and pipe handling equipment
  • Duties must be carried out as per the Job Hazard Assessment (JHA) and Procedural Manual

· Other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of drilling methods, techniques, and equipment
  • Strong functional and technical skills

· Mechanical knowledge of diesel engines, gearboxes, drive shafts, power take offs, rear ends, hoisting equipment

· Strong leadership skills with the ability to properly train, mentor, and supervise team members

· Strong organizational and communication skills

· Ability to promote strong safety values in the workplace and conduct safety meetings

· Ability to work quickly and plan ahead

· Ability to problem solving through a logical and analytical approach

· Ability to work in a team setting and efficiently coordinate the work of crew members

· Ability to work in varying weather conditions, such as rain and extreme heat/cold

· Ability to transport equipment and the rig crew

· Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach and move about rig location

· May be required to lift/move objects over 50 pounds

Certifications and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Enform Driller Competency
  • Must have 5 or more years of experience as a Driller/Operator on a service rig
  • Experience as a Relief Rig Manager on a service rig
  • Thermal experience is preferred
  • Valid safety tickets (H2S Alive, Rig Rescue, Fall Protection, Blow Out Prevention)
  • Valid driver’s license (Class 1, 3, or 5Q required)

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $35.00-$39.00 per hour
