The Department of Infrastructure (INF) provides high quality services to the public and Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) departments, boards and agencies including the planning, design, construction, acquisition, operation and maintenance of public transportation infrastructure and the buildings, works and equipment required for the GNWT to deliver its programs and services. INF makes essential petroleum products available for sale to the public where these products are not provided by the private sector, and promotes the development and increased use of energy efficient technologies. INF also regulates electrical and mechanical safety services and licenses individuals and vehicles operating in the territory.

Job Information

As the Plumber/Operating Engineer you will provide the primary operational, repair and maintenance support in Yellowknife, Ndilo, Dettah, Behchoko, Whati, Gameti, Wekweeti, and Lutselk'e. You will also be required to travel into communities in the North Slave Region to perform operational duties and will be required to ensure that knowledge is maintained and increased in this position through continual training and exposure to new or specific technology, systems, equipment, standards and processes.

As the Plumber/Operating Engineer you will have knowledge of steam and hydronic boiler systems, HVAC controls, Direct Digital Control Systems, Electrical Systems, Energy Management & Control systems, Plumbing, Ventilation Systems, Oil Burner Maintenance and Repair, Sprinkler and Alarm Systems. Knowledge of safety procedures, confined spaces, asbestos and mould identification and abatement is required.

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:
Completion of a 5th Class Power Engineering certification.
A Journeyperson Certificate as a plumber/gasfitter.
Five years of directly related experience in the commercial building maintenance/plant management field.
