Join a great team of dedicated staff at Winnipeg Public Library (WPL) in this leadership position at West Kildonan Library. You will have the opportunity to excel in all aspects of library management with a focus on delivering excellent customer service, supporting staff development and engaging with the local community. As public libraries continue to evolve, you will contribute to the relevancy of WPL by leading and supporting change in the branch.

As the Branch Head Librarian you will:
Plan and supervise the work of the branch, including the training and evaluation of staff.
Provide information services to customers.
Participate in collection development through weeding and recommending re-orders and new materials.
Use statistics and community demographic profiles to inform collection development and programming.
Participate in the planning, promotion, delivery and evaluation of programs for customers of all ages.
Promote the collection and services through displays and proactive outreach to the community.
Resolve customer concerns with respect and empathy.
Assist customers and staff using library technologies such as computers, tablets and apps.
Provide regular recommendations to the appropriate person, or committee, on issues of safety, maintenance and the physical appearance of the branch.
Engage with colleagues to assess and make recommendations to improve library services and procedures.
Support and build a culture that values diversity, equity and inclusive public services.

Your education and qualifications include:
Graduation from an accredited School of Library Science (B.L.S. or M.L.S.).
Demonstrated ability to plan and supervise the work of others.
Demonstrated thorough knowledge of library procedures and materials.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with the public and staff.
Must possess a good general knowledge of literature and of a variety of subject areas as well as knowledge of current affairs and trends.
Good planning and organizational skills.
Knowledge and understanding of the occupational hazards, safety precautions, regulations and procedures that are applicable to the area of work.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Policy.
Must have successfully completed the following courses or be prepared to complete within one year:
“Foundations of Supervisory Development” or “Workplace Leader”
“Safety Responsibilities for Supervisors/Managers”
“Diversity in the Workplace – The Role of the Supervisor/Manager”
