Job Summary

The Housing Outreach Worker (HOW) provides a flexible service that bends to meet the individual where they are at in the community and begin the process of housing that individual. The Housing Outreach Worker will secure housing for individuals that are referred from the Edmonton Shelter system to the Housing First Program within a timely matter.

In addition the Housing Outreach Worker will:

  • Provide intake services to potential clients
  • Refer to housing in the private and non-profit markets in the City of Edmonton co-ordinate day of move
  • Screen to ensure the best possible outcome for both client and landlord
  • Build relationships with landlords that is both respectful and professional
  • Complete of all necessary paperwork in a timely matter regarding housing the client
  • Provide support to landlords during housing
  • Complete data input on ETO
  • Provide client briefs to Follow Up Support Team members
  • Interact with clients in a caring, non-judgmental manner
  • Attend general staff meetings
  • Attend training as required
  • Any other related task or responsibility assigned by the Housing First Manager

Required Education, Skills and Qualifications

Position Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in a human services field and 1 to 2 years’ experience working with a marginalized population
  • Complete a Criminal and Vulnerable Sector Record Check
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of addictions, mental health and marginalized populations
  • Demonstrated level of literacy and communication skills sufficient for job responsibilities
  • An open, accepting and non-judgmental attitude with an ability to build rapport with clients and Landlords
  • Valid First Aid with CPR certification
  • Must have reliable transportation with 2 million liability
  • Knowledge of Edmonton’s Housing Market is considered an asset
  • Basic understanding of the Landlord and Tenancy Act
