The Software Developer will join the Montreal IBS Software Canada Team in Montreal, IBS’s new center of excellence for optimization, data sciences and machine learning. This team focuses on developing a suite of customized crew planning, management, and optimization solutions that balance airline interests with those of planners and crew members.
The OR Scientist is responsible for participating in the design of new optimization algorithms and solvers. This position reports to the manager of Operations Research and will work closely with the product team, business analysts, and customers to deliver mission-critical software components. The ideal candidate will possess a variety of skills required for problem solving, resource optimization, data mining and predictive analytics, including the ability to analyze large datasets and to develop modeling solutions to support optimized decision-making.
This is a very hands-on position where the ideal candidate will not only drive the adoption of new architectures, but also work side-by-side with fellow developers to implement new products and ensure high-quality development practices. He/she must respect project deadlines and ensure software quality meets the company’s standards. Excellent communication skills are required, as the position requires close collaboration with fellow developers, Product Managers, architects, and customers.
You will work within a team of highly-skilled scientists that enjoy solving complex problems using mathematics and analytics to answer them. Scientific knowledge and modelling skills are key assets that we put to the proof!
Designs innovative solutions to problems for which no solution is known (new models and/or algorithms).
Supports modelling and algorithmic choices with theoretical explanations.
Implements prototypes to answer such problems.
Question methods in place if need be, analyses algorithmic bottlenecks and flaws, and provides improvement directions.
Provides scientific guidance to software developers and scientists on matters for which he/she is the expert.
Works closely with architects and fellow scientists to ensure high-level quality of his/her code.
Is aware of state-of-the-art scientific results in his/her field and stays up-to-date with latest academic results, involvement
Maintains parts of the code that they are responsible for.
Works with customer-facing teams to validate feasibility of company’s commitments.
Understands customer needs to be able to adjust algorithms and solver parameters.
Estimates required timeframe and resource requirements for accomplishing development tasks in projects.
Participates in research projects with academic partners.
Programs and performs the debugging, source code inspections, corrects defects.
Other related duties as may be assigned.
Ph.D./M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Data Sciences, Statistics, Mathematics, or another related field.
At least 3 years of experience in software development.
Experience with Operations Research domain.
Experience with C.
Experience with C++ of Python is an asset.
Experience with Unix shell scripting.
Knowledge of agile processes is an asset.
Must be team-oriented.
Results oriented and strong customers focus.
Excellent communication skills in English and French, both written and spoken.
