Tandem Networks Inc. is an Ottawa-based Telecommunications Design and Construction Company which is currently accepting resumes to fill the position of Telecommunications Drafter / Designer .

Applicants being considered for this position will possess the following skills and abilities:

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD 2007 or later
  • Knowledge and experience using Windows computers and MS Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Good analytical skills and good judgment
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Good communication skills – written, verbal, and drawing
  • Ability to work well either alone or on a team
  • Professional and friendly demeanor; represents company well when meeting clients
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of French considered an asset
  • Knowledge of aerial and underground infrastructure, fibre, HFC, coaxial systems and technical standards for design of outside plant networks considered an asset
  • Experience using SpatialNet considered an asset

The chosen candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Create external & internal drawings depicting installation of telecom cables and infrastructure;
  • Create RF system design for CATV networks, for various types of projects consisting of new build, forced relocates, rebuild and system extensions;
  • Draft, design, redesign CATV network, and post as built utilizing client specific GIS software;
  • Produce plans for municipal consent, utility permits, and construction purposes;
  • Complete system design by gathering information from survey / field notes, cable designs;
  • Calculate powering, conduct level analysis and select appropriate locations for power supplies & nodes;
  • Import AutoCAD, TIFF, DXF or other file formats;
  • Design fiber optic and coaxial communications networks;
  • Communicate with permits / project coordinators to facilitate the transfer of accurate information with regards to construction design and drafting;
  • Complete projects while delivering a high quality solution package;
  • Participate in on-site visits as required
