In 1986, the Highwood Building opened and the original hospital building also began renovations. In 1997, a new hospital addition opened and was named the Holy Cross Ambulatory Care Centre. A major expansion to the Highwood Tower in 2008 opened up three additional levels in the building, including new administrative and education space on the 10th floor and four new medical and surgical units. The latest addition to the Rockyview General Hospital occurred in March 2010 with the opening of the Southern Alberta Institute of Urology (SAIU). In March 2010, the Rockyview also added a southern addition with a brand new, state-of-the-art Emergency department. This addition also includes shelled-in space for the future Cardiac Care Unit and Intensive Care Unit, along with other support facilities. Quick Facts: RGH has 650 beds.
