Junior Environmental Technician or Biologist (Grande Prairie)

EDI is searching for a Junior Environmental Technician or Biologist to join our team of experienced professionals for a summer or longer-term position. The successful candidate will assist in baseline terrestrial and aquatic studies, wildlife and fisheries inventory, water quality monitoring, environmental impact assessments and environmental monitoring — all under the supervision/mentorship of our intermediate and senior professionals. They will primarily conduct technical fieldwork and contribute to project logistics, data management (QA/QC) and technical reporting.

Our ideal candidate will have a strong aptitude for working in a team environment. They will have sound written and interpersonal communications skills, along with the following:

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline
  • 1 year of related experience
  • Comfortable with field work in remote locations and/or travel between offices.
  • Class 5 driver’s licence

Additional assets would include interest, experience and/or education that complement our Aquatics and Terrestrial teams, such as:

  • Soil Science – soil classification for land capability and pre-, post-disturbance assessment
  • Plant identification – vegetation surveys, invasive and noxious weeds
  • Wildlife – wildlife sweeps, species-specific surveys, migratory bird and raptor nest surveys
  • Wetland – identification and delineation
  • Fisheries – fish and fish habitat assessments, fish identification, fish sampling
  • Environmental Monitoring – for construction
