Position summary:
Manages the planning and execution of complex new product development test programs for the Drives business focused on the delivery of products through the development test process, and into a finished state for release to external customers. Oversees the execution of testing, development of test methods and management of test processes within the Drives organization. Monitors the product test program/project from initiation through delivery, interfacing with subject matter experts on technical matters and test activity integration. The Test Manager has responsibility for identifying all project staffing, facilities and test planning assessment for assigned projects. The Test Manager is responsible for the administrative oversight of assigned test personnel.

Essential Functions:
Oversees management of the test execution function. Including, but not limited to:

Assessing staffing needs for specified programs.

Creation of project test plans.

Coordination of all test personnel on assigned projects / programs.

Is responsible for management of test personnel, including but not limited to:

Setting of yearly personnel objectives and PADR reviews.

Responsibility for personnel performance and developmental growth.

Identification of specific functional capabilities of test personnel.

Is responsible for improvement of test related processes, including but not limited to:

Creation of new tests for added or enhanced test coverage.

Improvement of functional test content to enhance coverage and optimize efficiency.

Identification of opportunities to apply test automation to enhance efficiency.

Improvement of test traceability to requirements through available tools.

Improvement of test management processes to enhance efficiency.

Is responsible for resolving any technical issues related to test accuracy or appropriateness.

Is responsible for identifying any facilities needs as it pertains to assigned test programs.

Is accountable for compliance to Rockwell Automation EHS requirements.

Collaborates with other PCB business groups to provide testing capability for non-Drives products.

Well versed in the design and operation of Medium voltage power conversion equipment.

Knowledgeable in Product Development processes and Agile development methods.

Stays abreast of new test technology developments and applications that can be used in test programs/projects through participation in technology seminars, courses, and independent study.


Ability to work as a functional manager for the Test organization within Rockwell Automation.

Ability to lead change and drive common process within the Drives Test organization.

Able to identify critical functional milestones in the product development process.

Strong collaboration skills.

Impassioned approach to problem solving and team engagement.


Ensures thorough familiarity with company policies and procedures. Appropriately applies policies and procedures in compliance with government laws. Policies and procedures include, but not limited to : Standards of Business Conduct, Intellectual Property, Control Environment, Information Protection, ISO 9000 & 14001, government regulations (e.g. health, safety, quality and environmental), and functional policies published on the Rockwell Automation Information Network.

Travels domestically and internationally as required to meet the requirements of assigned projects.


Gain and maintain the support of internal and external stakeholders and decision makers in all areas of expertise required to achieve on time development deliverables with high product quality.

Drives activities toward completion with the ability to communicate functionally within the CP&S organization.

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree
Legal authorization to work in the Canada is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related engineering discipline. M.S. degree in Engineering or Engineering Management desired.
Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of management experience
Minimum 5 years’ experience in Product or System Testing or in other Testing/Quality Assurance role.
Familiarity with Rockwell Automation products or other industrial control equipment is required.
Experience planning and scheduling product development or product/system test activities is required.
Demonstration of technical knowledge in the areas of embedded firmware, power conversion hardware and test automation systems.
Knowledge of hardware and/or software test methodologies is desired.
Familiarity with 508C, UL DAP and ISO17025 requirements is desired.
Project Management Professional Certification is desired.
