Lactanet Canada is a producer-led organization, providing innovative dairy herd management and
genetic services to more than 10,000 dairy farm customers and professional advisors throughout
the country. We are a national organisation created by a partnership of Canadian Dairy Network
(CDN), CanWest DHI and Valacta, providing all components of genetic evaluation, milk recording
(data collection, lab analysis, data processing, etc.), herd management software and solutions,
applied research and innovation, advisory services, knowledge transfer and traceability. With 500
employees across Canada, Lactanet’s mission is to be the leading provider of herd management
solutions and knowledge to support the development of a prosperous and sustainable Canadian
dairy industry.

The National Genetics Research Leader will develop and implement the ongoing vision and strategy
for research and innovation in the area of dairy cattle genetics.


Lead and coordinate all research initiatives funded through the Dairy Cattle Genetics
Research and Development (DairyGen) Council of Lactanet Canada, which are conducted by
research scientists across Canada often involving international collaborations.

Actively network with industry partners as well as scientists nationally and internationally to
establish research priorities related to the genetic improvement of dairy cattle and
encourage innovative research initiatives supported through Lactanet.

Collaborate with the Manager, Genetic Evaluations, in the development and introduction of
world-class genetic and genomic evaluation services.

Participate in the development and realisation of various research initiatives of importance
to Lactanet under the responsibility of the Manager, Innovation & Development.

Represent the organization at various scientific conferences and other speaking


PhD in animal breeding or equivalent plus at least 5 years experience in academia and/or

Sound understanding of the theory and application of linear statistical models in both genetic
and genomic evaluation.

Self-motivated with excellent communication, leadership and networking skills, strategic

Major assets include practical knowledge and experience of dairy cattle improvement and
ability to communicate in both English and French.
