The Transportation Safety Lead will be responsible for directing and supervising the day-to-day operation of the Transportation Safety & Compliance Team at Certarus. The Transportation Safety Lead will support all transportation safety and compliance functions across our Canadian and US trucking operations. This position will report directly to the HSE & Transportation Manager.
Directly supervise a team of Road Safety Specialists and Transportation Compliance Coordinators across Canada and the USA
Travel regularly to Certarus field locations in Canada and USA to measure and evaluate company transportation safety and compliance performance
Recruit, select and onboard transportation safety and compliance team members
Direct the Certarus Transportation Safety & Compliance program in cooperation with the Certarus Health Safety and Environment Team
Build and deliver driver and vehicle safety and compliance training content
Serve as key contributing member of the Certarus Joint Health & Safety Committee
Draft Transportation Safety & Compliance written policies and procedures
Develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives to promote industry best practice in transportation safety and compliance
Oversee Certarus carrier registration and permitting requirements to ensure compliance
Remain current with changes to Canadian and US transportation safety and compliance regulations
Report statistics related to transportation safety and compliance performance to Management
Oversee major components of Certarus transportation compliance program including Driver Qualifications, Hours of Service and Logbooks, In-Vehicle Monitoring Systems, Driver Score Carding, Inspections, etc.
Assist in transportation related incident investigations and corrective actions
Assist with implementation and maintenance of Certarus Third-Party Trucking Contractor Management programs
Liaise directly with Operations Supervisors and Regional Managers to maintain two-way communication and provide coaching on transportation safety and compliance matters
Perform other special projects as assigned
Strong knowledge of Canadian & US trucking regulations including Driver Hours of Service, Vehicle Maintenance & Inspections, Transportation of Dangerous Goods/Hazmat, etc.
Bachelor's Degree an asset; formal Transportation and/or Safety education preferred
Proven experience leading teams and fostering results
5 years in a supervisory or transportation safety and compliance role for a carrier(s) with Canadian and US operations
Field experience in truck transportation an asset
Self-starter capable of working under minimal supervision
Demonstrated organizational skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficient in MS Office with an aptitude to learn new computer programs quickly
