POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, this role will involve directly managing high profile mandates such as negotiation of agreements for major infrastructure projects and providing legal advice to business units on various other issues including claims and litigation, labour and employment, and commercial risk.

No previous construction experience is required. The Aecon Legal group prides itself on hiring for potential and fit. We will take the time to train and develop you as a world class construction lawyer. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Legal and risk review of construction contracts
Negotiation of design agreements, subcontracts, and project agreements in Bid-Build, Design-Build, EPC or PPP frameworks
Provide legal/commercial advice to project management teams and business units’ leaders on a broad range of legal issues affecting the business, such as labour grievances, tender law, commercial risk transfer, legal entitlement to extra compensation etc.
Liaise between business unit leaders and external counsel on litigation files
Manage external counsel on litigation files
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Member in good standing with the LSUC
Post-call legal experience: 1-3 years
Experience with some or all of labour law, construction law, litigation management, PPP and EPC project procurement in the infrastructure, mining, energy and industrial spaces helpful, but not a requirement
Civil engineering background and/or fluency in French would be helpful, but not a requirement
Highly motivated team player
Must be a self-starter and possess a “do whatever it takes” attitude
The ideal candidate will have will be self-motivated, have sound judgment, and demonstrate professional presence while also being approachable. Important to have a firm grasp of legal concepts without being overly legalistic.
