Reporting to the VP Finance, Pharmacy & Healthcare Businesses, the Director Finance, Health & Wellness is a proactive partner to Pharmacy business units providing value added analysis and strategic guidance to help them achieve their business objectives. This financial leader is responsible for providing advice on the financial implications of business initiatives and decisions. The incumbent will play a critical role in all aspects of financial analyses and provide complex financial modelling support to the business units.

Primary Responsibilities

Direct and supervise the financial assessment of key strategic investment initiatives [capex and opex] related to all pharmacy driven initiatives, particularly related to the Health & Wellness initiatives. Determine the viability of initiatives and make recommendations to the senior management team.
Design and maintain financial models to support investing, reporting, and planning activities.
Administer the preparation of the projected financial [IRR model] results in support of senior management decision making for all potential investment activities within the Pharmacy business units.
Assess segments within the Pharmacy Business to assist business unit leaders to determine possible risks and opportunities.
Lead development of IRR models to reflect each unique investment decision required for each initiative.
Conduct annual post-investment reviews for capital initiatives to validate assumptions [through the use of empirical data] and provide detailed analysis highlighting key drivers behind performance variances. Findings presented to the SVP’s of Pharmacy and senior leadership within SDM. Incorporate trends and other learnings into ongoing financial analysis
Validation of historical growth rates in support of revenue estimates contained within capital submissions.
Involvement in forecasting and budgeting of all Pharmacy business units.
Provide leadership in the development and continuous evaluation of short and long term strategic financial objectives and identify opportunities for improvement.
Interact with VP’s across the businesses to develop financial models to support initiatives.

Creation of financial models and reports in support of the Health & Wellness platform as well as other Pharmacy driven initiatives.

Develop and maintain performance dashboards for use in period financial reviews with business leads.
Analyze, research, compile, and synthesize external and internal information to support senior management’s understanding of the factors, trends, and influences impacting the Pharmacy initiatives.
Plan, oversee, review, and interpret results and provide analytical support and assistance to business units as required.
Deliver financial presentations and ad hoc reports to senior management as requested.
Participating in special cross-functional projects.
Develop and maintain relationships and effective communication with business partners in all Pharmacy teams.
Provide guidance and leadership to the Senior Manager Finance responsible for the small Loblaw Pharmacies finance team.

This position requires an advanced level of analytical ability and financial acumen.Initiative and judgement are required to organize and prioritize tasks, workload and projects.

Requires the ability to interact and communicate effectively with senior management as necessary around confidential/sensitive information regarding Pharmacy business operations.
Strong leadership skills to help mentor and develop direct reports.
Requires thorough knowledge and skills in multiple disciplines to assess and develop recommendations on strategic direction and implications.
Requires tact and diplomacy to resolve situations where there may be some level of conflict, stress or uncertainty.
Decisions are typically broad based in nature involving multiple resources outside of the areas of direct authority, ability to influence will be critical for gaining the assistance of those resources.
Adaptable and able to set and prioritize work.
Communicates with clarity both verbally and in written communication to both financial and non-financial audiences.
Provides technical information to fellow colleagues in a clear and understandable manner.
Computer skills to produce and interpret detailed reports and presentations.

Education and Job Knowledge

Minimum 7 – 10 years of experience in a Finance environment.
Post secondary education equivalent to a university degree in Business/Accounting or Finance; ideally an MBA and or professional accounting designation.
Minimum of 4 years in a management position
Several years of supervisory experience.
Demonstrated analytical, problem solving and negotiation skills, combined with well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, are essential for this position.
Must possess strong computer skills and be detail oriented.
Previous planning experience would be an asset
