Job Description

As one of the specialists in IT Infrastructure Engineering - Servers and Storage, this position provides real-time operational support for various processes and technologies in the various UHN data centers. The role is a combination design and build activities supporting new IT infrastructure projects, and support activities of existing server and storage equipment. The day-to-day responsibilities will involve dividing time between project work and support work. From the support side this includes keeping the servers in UHN’s data centers fully functional and operational.

The successful candidate will have a strong focus on development in order to continuously increase their own skills as well as mentor other more junior technical resources in the group.

Key Responsibilities

Acts as a Resolver for the relevant Servers and Storage queues and as an escalation path for other Digital groups.
Investigates and resolves a wide range of Server-related inquiries, including OS configuration, patching, login issues, file access issues, and application access issues
Investigates and resolves a wide range of storage-related inquiries, including creating storage volumes, setting permissions, creating file shares, etc.
Works with colleagues with specialties such as automation, OS/platform experts, storage, networking, technical support, etc. There will be some overlap in expertise and job function, where appropriate for optimum user experience.
Acts as a specialist in all areas of Servers and Storage management
Leads investigation; performs root-cause analysis on technical problems; provide solutions using specific product knowledge, system utilities, and operating environment
Plans, develops and implements operational improvements that will maintain technology efficiency and minimize system issues/bugs while working within the UHN Digital standards/practice.
Works with the Windows Server Technologies, and has an understanding of related technologies including:
Failover Clustering, Print Services, File Share Services, Remote Desktop Services, IIS Web Services, Deep Troubleshooting, PowerShell and PowerShell Scripting.
Works with the Storage Technologies, and has an exposure to related technologies including:
Dell XtremIO, NetApp Metrocluster, Dell EMC ECS cloud solutions, Commvault

Works with the secondary technology domains that include:
Active Directory
Certificate Services
VMWare vCenter and vSphere
Performs cross-functional and/or other duties as assigned and/or required.
Acts in full compliance with relevant UHN policies, established procedures, and industry best-practices.

Education Requirements

At minimum, completion of a 2-year community college program in Engineering, Computer Science or Computer Systems Technology, or recognized equivalent required.

MCITP Certification
MCSE Certification
MCSA Certification (O365 or equivalent)
ITIL Certification
RHCSA or RHCE Certification preferred
VMWare Certified Professional (VCP)

Required Experience:
At minimum: Over 2 years up to and including 3 years practical and related experience
The time spent on an area to become an expert would typically be 2 to 3 years.
Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a corporate environment managing, monitoring and/or operating Windows Servers and Storage systems at the level of a system or network administrator.
Practical and working knowledge local area networks and interfacing/integration with other computers.
Practical and working knowledge of Internet and client/server architectures.
Understands how various issues affect each other and the outcome of projects.
Good process analysis and application skills.
Good analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to systematically analyze situations/issues, identify options, draw logical conclusions and determine/recommend practical courses of action.
Organizational change management skills.
Ability to effectively deal with high priority unscheduled tasks and problems.
Understands how various issues affect each other and the outcome of projects.
