Under the general supervision of the Vice President Estimating and PMO, the General Manager, PMO will be responsible for providing effective oversight of all facets of project management, on assigned scope annually, through the development and oversight of a versatile Project Management Team.
Key Responsibilities
  • Accountable to ensure compliance and consistent adoption of all current Project Management / Project Controls / Risk Management best practices and tools.
  • Accountable to ensure the strategic and effective development, growth, and retention of people resources for key project management / project controls functions to support our current and future Project Management needs.
  • Maintain an emphasis on developing a strong, organic and agile team focused on consistent, safe and profitable project execution, while maintaining positive relationships with Owners.
  • Maintain positive and effective relationships with internal stakeholder groups (Estimating, Operations, Procurement, Process Excellence, Finance, Safety, QA/QC, etc.)
  • Accountable to ensure that internal and customer project management / controls reporting requirements are met, while driving enhanced reporting accuracy and proficiency though automation.
  • Accountable to ensure accurate and timely Tracking / Forecasting and Construction Schedule activities on assigned projects.
  • Assist in execution / project management subject matter preparation for large tender proposals.
  • Ensure effective and optimal budget transformation into project Work Breakdown Structure WBS.
  • Accountable to ensure the effective and optimal management and administration of project lessons learned.
  • Accountable to ensure that all internal and external project management Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) are maintained and reported, as appropriate.
  • In the case of major projects involving multiple Aecon Divisions, effectively liaise with other lead Project Management staff as appropriate.
  • Upon award, accountable to ensure the smooth and accurate transition of data between systems such as Hard Dollar, Primavera and SAP as required.
  • Accountable to ensure effective and consistent Document Control processes are leveraged.
  • Drive for continuous improvement and efficiency incorporating constructive feedback on Aecon tools and processes.
  • Incorporating adaptability to diversity of contract formats and Owner requirements.
  • Will provide supervision, mentoring, development of assigned Managers, as direct reports.
  • Will be accountable for oversight of the supervision, mentoring, development by Managers, of their direct reports.
Required Knowledge & Skills
  • Post-secondary education (Degree or Diploma) in Civil or Mechanical Engineering
  • PMP designation an asset
  • Minimum of 15 years of related experience in project management within the construction industry.
  • Exceptional safety culture.
  • Field related construction experience.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Cost Controls and Document Controls functions.
  • Proficient understanding of concepts around Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), productivity, Earned Value Management (EVM), Forecasting.
  • Superior skills in project management and change management.
  • Expertise in reading and understanding contract documents and construction drawings, in a variety of formats.
  • Adaptable to change, business growth, diversity of work types, strategy and internal teams.
  • Strong knowledge of construction techniques, practices and fundamentals.
  • Strong knowledge of estimating, planning / scheduling and procurement processes.
  • Strong understanding of engineering, contracts and construction work processes.
  • Proficiency with MS Office
  • Knowledge of Hard Dollar (Estimating) and Primavera (Planning / Scheduling) software Business development knowledge / skills an asset.
  • Strong negotiation, motivation, influence and leadership skills / tactics.
