David Aplin Group, one of Canada's Best Managed Companies, has partnered with our client to recruit for a Senior Project Manager – Heavy Civil/ MTO Projects – Northwestern Ontario Region.
Our client a global contractor in the heavy civil construction industry, is accelerating their operations in Canada and is seeking an experienced Senior Construction Project Manager to join their team.
The Senior Project Manager will plan and manage heavy civil construction projects from beginning to end, providing operations, technical and financial expertise to stakeholders. The projects will be based out of Fort Frances. He/ she will be required to be on-site while maintaining close communication with their headquarters in Burlington.
Provide overall construction management from the pre-planning stage to completion including, value engineering, coordination, budget, and schedule in conjunction with the Superintendent, and Project Coordinator.
Manage financial aspects of contracts, including monthly Earned Value Reports (EVRs).
Cultivate and nurture relationships with team members, trade partners, consultants and clients to achieve project goals.
Ensures that Safety Risk Assessments are carried out prior to undertaking a new activity.
Monitor, interpret and forecast a project's cost reports ensuring they are in line with the estimate and maintain a positive cash flow.
Lead project meetings with internal and external parties.
Act to resolve disagreements between the Company and Stakeholders.
In conjunction with the project team, submit project reports and communicate with senior management about project progress and areas of risk that need to be escalated
Identify required and non-compulsory changes in project scope.
Ensure all changes have been documented and approved.
Promote health and safety on site.
Demonstrated leadership in Health Safety and Environmental policies.
Mentoring and developing up and coming Project Managers.
Outstanding leadership with the ability to positively influence others and successfully resolve a variety of challenges.
Strong understanding of MTO Specs; OPSS/OPSD, Book 7, etc.
The Ideal Candidate:
A degree in Civil Engineering or a construction-related program with 10+ years’ experience in managing heavy civil projects.
P.Eng highly preferred.
Proven track record of managing multiple projects from the field, as well as from a distance (office). This is not an office-based position.
More than 5 years’ experience working with MTO is a MUST; Strong understanding of MTO Specs; OPSS/OPSD, Book 7, etc.
Previous bridge construction project management experience and experience with projects that include new build bridges; bridge rehabs, dams, structures, roads and highways will be preferred.
Previous experience working for a General Contractor preferred.
Experience managing construction projects from $ 50 - $ 60 million and up.
Demonstrated ability to meet project objectives within time and budget limits.
Proven ability to liaise with clients and stakeholders to achieve deliverable objectives.
Strong communication, leadership and people management skills.
Ability to quickly adapt to new environment and flexibility to be rotated to different project sites/locations later within Ontario.
