We are looking to hire a Bilingual Medical Underwriter to join our Group Medical Underwriting team. As the successful candidate, you will be responsible to assess individual medical risk for Life, Critical Illness, Disability and Health and Dental. To be successful in our Underwriting department, you must be committed to continuous learning, as well as have an aptitude and demonstrated ability to think outside of the box to provide "solutions" and identify opportunities to exceed in your craft.
What You’ll be Doing:
Analyze and interpret medical and non-medical information to assess the medical risk of Group Plan Members and their dependents requesting Group Life, Health, Critical Illness, and Disability coverage;
Effectively communicate with Plan Members, Plan Sponsors, and medical professionals regarding individuals and their health;
Provide support and excellent customer service to Plan Members and Plan Sponsors who have questions regarding their benefits and group insurance plan
Develop and maintain positive co-operative working relationships with Group Benefits business partners to deliver excellent customer service
Select & classify risks according to Manulife philosophy and standards
Provide excellent customer service and build positive relationships with all internal & external clients
Compliance with all legislation and consumer regulation as they apply to risk classification, privacy and disclosure
Identify and provide solutions to work related problems and procedures
Ensure team goals are met at all times and promote an atmosphere of confidence and trust with all customers in order to facilitate acceptance of decisions
Who You are and How You’ll Succeed:
Bilingual (French, English) is required
University degree or business college diploma (Health Sciences would be an asset)
Life insurance experience and/or medical background is considered an asset
LOMA and/or ALU courses or other insurance related courses, currently enrolled or high interest in pursuing
Exemplary customer service skills and excellent oral & written communication skills
Ability to comprehend, retain and apply current technical information to daily work issues
Knowledge of systems dealing with insurance applications, new business processes would be an asset
Well organized with strong attention to detail
Possess excellent decision making skills
Be an independent self-starter
Have strong analytical and problem solving skills
Ability to work within tight turnaround times
Ability to be adaptable and flexible when dealing with change
