Role Summary
Scope: Serves as a key leader within the division responsible for assuring that cost reduction improvement initiatives are implemented and sustained; undertaking a participative leadership role in the integrated use of lean principles, tools & techniques; coaching, training & mentoring of employees; identification of cost effective process and quality improvements; and establishing a culture of excellence & continual improvement, Change agent that leads through hands-on efforts, projecting exemplary attributes of inspiration, leadership and serving as a role model. The OI Coordinator will lead MAFACT initiatives in the plant for all departments and represent UMG at group and corporate levels. Create and maintain MAFACT Assessment and Improvement Plan (A3)
As a Certified MAFACT Assessor, participate in at least at one cross-group assessment per year (e.g. Exteriors à Cosma).
Create improvement plan including monthly implementation tracking for all MAFACT sections.
Present MAFACT status at monthly meetings including score, status of CI projects & Employee suggestions.
Conduct internal MAFACT Assessments and audits and work with departments leads to create& monitor an improvement plan. Escalate concerns of non-compliance to Director of Operations and General Manager. CI Cost Saving and Problem Solving
Lead & track significant CI Projects in conjunction with the MAFACT Coordinator and the leadership team.
Conduct Problem Solving Training including A3, PDCA, 5-Why for division employees.
Identify& support “Top 3” Improvement Projects for each department in the division.
Utilize A3 results to drive selection of all CI activities (division A3 & department A3´s). Lead a cross-functional team to implement Continuous Improvement activities in the division, based on MAFACT principles, a ssuring that initiatives are implemented and sustained. Shop Floor & Kaizen
Advanced process knowledge of core processes of the division is required.
Conduct weekly Gemba Walk by following the complete material flow.
Conduct a minimum of one KAIZEN workshop per month focusing on small but continuous improvement steps – everybody, everywhere and everyday.
Conduct problem solving “at the source”, managing by data and encouraging measurable improvements. Other Duties and Responsibilities
Support the divisional General Manager, Director of Operations and Operations Manager in the achievement of the division’s financial and operational objectives.
Supports, and adheres to policies, procedures, and operational guidelines related to the established quality management system (IATF 16949), safety management system (ISO 45001) and environmental management system (ISO 14001).
Comply with the applicable responsibilities related to effective quality management in accordance with Unimotion-Gear’s Quality Management System (QMS) IATF 16949.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations or his/her designate. MAFACT Tools
Create & revisit Standardized Work for a high runner.
Identify and track significant improvements of performance related KPI’s via STW.
Rollout STW across the division.
Revisit TPM for high running parts; identify and track significant improvement via TPM & rollout TPM across the division.
Promote and introduce 5S as a culture – set the basics for Standardized Work, TPM, Material Management and LPA.
Introduce & support a sense of responsibility to maintain systems in the division.
Create Value Stream Mapping (VSM) for the most important value stream in the division & create a VSM roadmap to cover all high-runners and consequently work on VSM Current-Future-PDCA.
Introduce & support PULL principle in the division; identify and track significant improvements via VSM.
Initiate “Train the Trainer” programs: provide training and coaching in the division for MAFACT, TWI & Lean principles. Key Qualifications
Skilled in 5S, Layered Process Audit, TPM, Value Stream Mapping required.
Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Formal training in Lean Principles, Kaizen, 5S, technical education and/or project management is required
Addition experience with Six Sigma, Supply chain management and TWI preferred Requirements
Three to five years in the automotive industry, with experience in lean manufacturing, Continuous Improvement and Production Systems.
Good documentation, organizational, analytical, decision making and problem solving skills.
Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
Ability to conduct effective training sessions and workshops.
Able to create and conduct informative and engaging presentations.
Excellent interpersonal skills and a ble to lead and/or work on a team.
Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage simultaneous projects.
Able to work within a self-directed work environment to achieve results.
Infrequent business travel may be required, including outside Canada.
