The primary role of an Intermediate Interior Designer is to support the Senior Designer’s objectives to interpret and translate the design needs and business desires of a client set forth into a cohesive interior design solution. This process may involve programming, design development, create material palettes, production of drawings (2D/3D), and written specifications to support the conceptual direction of the interior design and/or FFE.
Works directly with Senior Interior Designer and/or team in development of designs.
Supports Senior Interior Designer and/or team in development of material for presentations.
Assists in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, studies, and other visual formats.
Utilizes technologies in the development of three dimensional models of interiors and their components.
Interprets and applies building codes and requirements of other regulatory agencies.
Conducts interior space planning, block planning, and adjacencies in coordination with project program.
Prepares and revises documentation in various project phases to support design intent.
Coordinates interior systems (materials, finishes, fixtures, etc.) to ensure compatibility with the design intent.
Assists in the evaluation and selection of interior systems and materials.
Attends project coordination and meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants.
Understands sustainable design and well-building principles and how they will affect the project design.
Participates in business development activities and interviews.
** This role requires travel.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Moderate knowledge and application of accessibility, zoning and building codes,
Moderate knowledge of building construction systems, means and methods, materials, and industry associated standards is expected.
Well verse in the understanding of all phases of Interior Design document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
Ability to conduct space planning, block planning, and adjacencies in coordination with building program.
To check own work for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule outlined by Project Manager.
To participate and collaborate in a project team setting through all phases of interior design document production.
To engage in creative and critical thought.
To hand sketch and communicate concepts and ideas to others effectively.
To interpret sketches, drawings, project program and other similar material.
To communicate abstract ideas (verbal/written).
Advanced understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD; prefers experience with Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUP, and other modeling software.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or Diploma (3+ years) interior design or interior architecture industry recognized accredited program
5+ years post-graduation experience working in a design firm
2+ years (minimum) commercial office design (Canadian) experience
Possess or working towards IDA or AAA Registration an asset
Possess or working towards NCIDQ & LEED accreditation an asset
