System Administrator Job Details
The Systems Administrator II position plays a senior role in the support of the clients technical platform and application systems.
Responsibilities of this position include design, implementation and maintenance of many primary business process and technical areas.
This includes but is not limited to messaging and communications services, file and print services, Active Directory design and management, and platform design supporting corporate applications.
This position will be required to act without supervision while adhering to defined IS policies, procedures, and best practices.
At all times provide timely responses to ticketed work, managing requestor expectations, adhering to service level targets, ensuring customer satisfaction and aligning with corporate directions as defined by management.
A primary goal of this position is to support the production environment ensuring Platform Services availability.
This position works closely with the IS Risk Management, Infrastructure Services Team, Desktop Support, Service Desk, and Database Administration. A Systems Administrator II provides a senior role for problem resolution, fosters positive growth, manages projects, has high standards and values, is a source of leadership and guidance, has strong work ethics, and mentors junior employees in various teams.
The Systems Administrator II is a Tier 3 support resource capable of solving the most critical issues and is considered an expert in a range of platform enabling technologies.
System Administrator Responsibilities
Platform Services Administration, Maintenance and Support:
Support the security, deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and administration of all platform technologies including server operating systems, software, and peripherals.
Perform research on potential technology solutions in support of procurement efforts.
Keep current with the latest technologies.
Evaluate and direct implementation of server build solutions to suit corporate needs.
Adhere to Disaster Recovery requirements.
Perform Research and identification of new standards and policies.
Ensure that the Platform service standards, procedures, and policies are strictly adhered to including but not limited to software packaging and installation, new server builds, infrastructure design and security controls.
Troubleshoot all aspects of Platform Services operations.
Implement and maintain a patch management strategy on all solutions.
Provide monitoring (with strong focus on security monitoring) of platform systems and applications including but not limited to Active Directory and Email.
Perform continuous improvements to services through monitoring, reporting, analyzing, and enhancing.
Use best practices for security and administration within Active Directory.
Use automation whenever possible to reduce errors and duplicate procedures.
Enhance logon scripts and group policy to increase productivity and efficiency.
Administer domain services such as DNS, WINS and DHCP.
Ensure high availability of domain infrastructure.
Maintain internal Applications including but not limited to Forefront for Exchange, Forefront Client Security, Exchange, Lync, and Blackberry.
Implement best practice designs for privileged account security, ensuring highly secure application installations. Server and
Manage application and platform storage capacity using best practices to maintain free space and ensure expected performance.
Track and forecast storage usage corporate wide.
Ensure that capacity planning is conducted within adequate time to implement enhancements for all Server and Storage Infrastructure elements.
Email and Communications Services:
Ensure healthy operation and high availability of email services.
Maintain application and upgrades of the email system in accordance with Microsoft recommendations.
Maintain and Administer communication services including but not limited to Lync, Blackberry Enterprise Server, and Webmail.
Identify and use the appropriate tools to obtain user statistical and server operational data and trends to forecast infrastructure growth. Virtualization:
Have a solid understanding of VMware virtualization technology.
Ensure security, availability and continuity of platform systems through fault tolerance, and High Availability.
Ensure that capacity planning is conducted with adequate time to implement enhancements for all platform elements.
Ensure security boundaries exist and are maintained between production banking, DMZ, development and test environments.
Build Deploy and Maintain Servers and Solutions:
Build and maintain server templates for efficient standardized deployments. · Design and build security into all solutions.
Maintain security and integrity of all systems.
Research, maintain and coordinate system upgrades and service packs.
Maintain up to date knowledge of industry changes and direction through research, literature, seminars and knowledge sharing.
Ensure compliance with corporate architecture and security standards.
Develop and maintain process automation using the tools available.
Deploy automation and group policy to ensure security and automated maintenance processes.
Monitor systems for adherence to corporate security policies.
Track usage and renewal of various certificates installed throughout the organization.
Ensure that security is part of the design, build, and maintenance of all solutions.
Suggest new, and support all initiatives to increase security of confidential member data or proprietary information owned by the Client.
Attend and contribute to team meetings.
Provide value added user training where appropriate.
Create and maintain detailed Platform systems documentation and procedures.
Escalate issues to manager where required using established guidelines.
Provide support as required.
Perform research, configuration and deployment of line of business software.
Work with stakeholders to define business and systems requirements for new technology implementations.
Manage assignments and customer expectations to meet due dates.
Working with clients to manage expectations, keep them informed and strive for customer satisfaction.
Provide project leadership.
Provide technical leadership and coaching when required.
Maintain current knowledge of the clients Infrastructure and evolving changes within the environment by sharing information to keep current on new products, services, or other configuration changes within the environment.
Serve as an escalation point for junior staff and other teams.
Maintain awareness of current products, services, protocols, and standards in support of all platform procurement and development efforts.
Ensure IS Infrastructure adheres to defined service level objectives with business units.
Perform other duties as required by the manager.
System Administrator Mandatory Skills
At least 10 years of proven experience working with Information Technology in a corporate multiplatform, multi-vendor environment
Financial sector experience is considered an asset
Knowledgeable of Windows 2008, 2012, 2016, Windows 7
Windows 2012/2016 Server Configuration/Administration experience
Have a solid understanding of VMware Virtualization technology.
Familiar with vCenter Operations Manager an asset
Have a solid understanding of the architecture, design, implementation and management of all aspects of Microsoft Windows operating systems and application services including Active Directory 2008, Exchange 2010/2013, and Lync
Familiarity with the fundamentals of IS security, and security hardening practices
Solid understanding of basic networking and vlan designs and topologies
Blackberry Enterprise Server Administration an asset
Knowledge to support Microsoft Exchange, Active Directory Migration and other Microsoft Enterprise applications
Familiarity with HP products including Data Protector and Remote Copy an asset
Knowledge of networking, hardware, software, desktop, Microsoft Office, and excellent knowledge of information systems and security.
Education and Training: Grade twelve education and a minimum 2 year technical diploma or business degree in Computer Systems / Information Technology. Licenses/Certificates:
ITIL Foundations 3.0 is required
At least two CompTIA Certifications from A+, Network+, Security+ and Server+
Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert
